......I'm a guitar player...but 1984's backbone is ALEX VAN HALEN....really...it's alex that holds that record together
..In 1984 Van Halen Jumped Panama
Topped Jimmy & Dropped Dead Legs
..Ill Wait in this House of Pain with the
Girl Gone Bad while I am really Hot for Teacher..

..Think it was easy ?..you stare at an album
Cover that long..

Yeah, I think Alex did some outstanding work on 1984, but the groove Ed hit on House of Pain was phenomenal, as well as Top Jimmy, Drop Dead Legs, and Girl Gone Bad.
Could this be magic?

It was 5150 studio that did it for Alex. Eddie, Alex and Mike were at their greatest for 1984 and Drop Dead Legs, Panama, HFT, Girl Gone Bad are HUGE examples of the band at their greatest. House of Pain is a HEAVY tune that still leaves a question in my mind....why was DLR's vocals so low in volume during this song?
Just go for it!

Great album....What more can I say about it?
My favorite tune on it is the last song on the first side of the record....(see if any of you people who only own it on CD can figure out what song that is )

1984 was great from start to finish.

Too bad we may never get a follow up.

1984 has it all, there's something for everyone, which is probably why it was so successful. There were many rocking tunes (Panama, Hot For Teacher, Girl Gone Bad, etc.), keyboards (Jump, I'll Wait) and Eddie's great solos in every song. A perfect album from start to finish.

Even though VH1 and Fair Warning are great I must say that 1984 is my personal fav. It's just awesome from start to finish, and I also believe that Alex was at his best on this album. Hot for Teacher and Girl Gone Bad are prime examples of that. There are many great albums out there by many artists and of those albums 1984 is certainly one of the best. yeah, alex's drumming are awesome on that album. i think it's his best drumming album. just the way he plays, not neccesarily speed, but the way he plays is really cool. plus HFT is brilliant.

i really enjoy the album. and ed got alot of flack for the keyboard tunes he wrote, but the two he had on 1984 are faves of mine.

What it is about 1984 is the way they encpasulate adolescence in a bottle. This is coming out of left field a little after talking about instruments that made the album I guess, but really, its what I think. I think that at some point absolutely everybody is able to identify exactly where the emotions behind the album come from. It just fits a certain partying reference in the back of every human brain (especially male) that inspires you to drink too much, fuck a lot, and sleep too late. It's the welcome mat to adolescent adulthood that supplies all the needed hormonal ingredients to make for some pretty fine glory days. A subliminal blueprint to irrepressable havoc and the neverending search to the ultimate good time via grooved pavement.

And it tastes good on toast.
