Achievements:
I know this has been gone over before, but I just saw it for the first time and was VERY dissappointed. Of course, most here believe they are easily Top 5, but also the few people they had commenting on the band just did not even come close to doing them justice!!

Top 100
I think lucky number seven's pretty damn good actually. Yes, I would agree they should be top five, but I think Zep, Sabbath, AC/DC and Metallica are all worthy choices given the consistency in their catalogues and enduring relevance. I wouldn't rate Hendrix or Nirvana that high, but that's the martyr factor for you: Die and your art is instantly twice as important.
The whole list's a bit of a joke. The category is the greatest hard rock bands and they include the likes of Pink Floyd, Ministry, and the Clash as hard rock And putting the Stones at No. 67 behind Joan Jett? That's asinine. Friggin' critics. Whoever made this list up, I'll bet the only instrument they've ever played was the skin flute
Putting Spinal Tap just ahead of Bon Jovi was a nice touch though.
This thread sort of ties in nicely with the debate over who's better - AC/DC or VH? Sabbath were the originators of what's stereotypically referred to as metal. Metallica established thrash. Zep and the Stones are amazingly diverse bands that recorded songs in almost every conceivable style, but are probably best categorized as "rock and roll. Comparing VH to any of these bands is apples and oranges. But VH, AC/DC, Aerosmith, Gun n Roses, etc, naturally draw comparisons because they all play what I would call high energy rock or party tunes.
Don't know that any "art" can be considered the best, but when I feel like partying, VH gets it done every time.

If that was done in 1995 they'd be higher. Their inactivity/ decision making is really hurting their legacy. In 95, a large Jersey rock station 105.5 had their top 100 based on fan voting throughout Jersey. VH came in at 2 behind Zeppelin. Aerosmith, AC/DC and Rush were all in the second half of the top 10. Things have changed...

Here's how you fix that top 10 on that list.
First Nirvana and Kiss are out of the top ten. Then you take Metallica and bump them to no.8. Move VH, the Who and Guns and Roses up to 5, 6 and 7 respectively. Finally insert Aerosmith at no.9 and the Rolling Stones at no.10 so you end up with something like this.
1. Led Zeppelin
2. Black Sabbath
3. Jimi hendrix
4. AC/DC
5. Van Halen
6. The Who
7. Guns and Roses
8. Metallica
9. Aerosmith
10. The Rolling StonesYou can twist perceptions
"Shitvana" as Zakk Wylde likes to call them, shouldn't even be on the damn list. [/QB]
When did Zakk say that? Where did you hear or read that? Man that shit fucking kills me! Zakk is so damn outspoken and honest, I love that.
Guess he wasnt big on the grunge thing.
It is sad that just because old Kurt blew his brains out he is now holier than everyone else and held up as some stupid martyr. I dig Nirvana but no way in fucking hell should they ever be rated ahead of VH, The Who or any band like that. I am suprised the fucking retards at VH-1 even remembered Van Halen! I'll take a #7 spot on their list any day since I thought they had forgotten about VH.
My personal top 5 hard rock/metal bands list is:
Led Zeppelin
Van Halen
Black Sabbath
The Who
AC/DC or Deep Purple.

I HATE List!
Music is all about opinion and taste. Who can say what is better?
I thought for sure Def Leppard should be in the top 10. They didn't even crack the top 30?
In defense of Nirvana, I always thought the best years of Kurt were in front of him...All that talent wasted. Those who say he gets more credit because he martyred himself, the same argument can be said about Jimi Hendrix...Kurt, like Jimi did influence alot of people and changed the scape of music.
All in all, the list sucks...Just like the all the rest. "Keep honking buddy. I'm reloading..." -The Mard
"......HEY!.............alright............." -BIG FOOT
" I know what you're thinking: "Do I want to watch Mard? We know that horses were very strong and could actually stop airplanes from flying away. The ones made out of stone called "statues" -- occasionally came to life and rode off is a colonial cliche. How many more times do we need to hear about how the oppressive Raj's wore villainous black capes, crafted cunning plastic masks to impersonate people, and drained all the blood from their slaves so they could keep the fluid in bottles in their dungeons? I mean, YAWN!
But if you're willing to sit through this dry sort of historical drama one more time -- or even just this dry historical review -- you will not be disappointed. In fact, some of you might just learn something they didn't teach you in school!- MARD-The Movie

KISS should easily be ahead of GNR and Nirvana. That's not even close...Nirvana at their peak still had a hard time drawing more fans to concerts than Van Halen at their worst.

This topic has been done before but I'll comment on it again. I also agree that Nirvana was way to high (no pun intended) on the list. VH should have been in the top 3. They will always be my favorite band but man Led Zeppelin did it all.
