Maybe we can help Eddie

Um, I'm a little scared to say this but I have a burn inside of me that says I need to let this out. Eddie is one of the most important factors in my life. His music has helped me conqure drug addiction, persoanl problems, and if not for hearing "Unchained" some 8 years ago I would have never picked up a guitar. And now he is facing something that I cannot imagin, Cancer. The man has given so much hope to me, yet he does not even know who I am. And I come on here and see the forums up in arms against a man that means the world to me, I was almost in tears. I'm not taking sides, and I'm not here to try and offend anybody, please do not take it that way. I am here tonight to ask a favor of all of you. For some reason I feel that Van Halen was brought to me to help me through those dark times as I would like to be here now for Eddie to help him. I can't do it by myself, I am only one fan, one insignificant fan. I'd like to somehow set up a tribute, maybe a banner that we can all display on our websites in support of Ed's fight against cancer. If enough people do it, maybe we can make a difference. Maybe just maybe I can feel like I've given back to Eddie what he has given me. Please, if anyone is interested in what I have said respond to this message. I'd like ideas and any help I could get. Thank you all!

Instead of bitching about when we'll get new music, someone is actually wondering if he can help Eddie? It's a nice change of pace after the last couple of days, to say the least.

raven, you're definitely in the minority here.

All I can say is that Eddie is the only one that can help himself...motivation helps a little but it is TOTALLY up to him what and how he does! I KNOW!!!!!!

i agree with brew...i knew someone who was an addict and it has to come from the person to change. what other people want you to do doesnt matter much,unfortuneately [img]smilies/frown.gif[/img]

Noble words, raven. [img]smilies/cool.gif[/img] And at the same time, the best thing we can do is allow Ed to live his life, instead of second guessing his every move. That's the first step to supporting him. He's had plenty of codependents throughout his life, and perhaps the fans are some of the biggest ones. Best of luck to a man I hold dear.

The thing about Eddie is he's in another world from us. We can't talk to him, or make any kind of contact with him.

So I'm inclined to think that if you're really wanting to make a difference, go to your local hospital (many cities have specific cancer hospitals) and give your time there.

At least there you can see and touch people, have a conversation with them, tell them they're stupid to smoke if that's what you're feeling.

This probably sounds crazy (and lord knows I'm not going to do it), but instead of trying to change the world, why not try to change your little corner of the world?
