Lately all I have seen when I take my once a day glance at the ARMY all I see is "VHLINKS Sucks monster balls threads" and shit like that.
Well where did those people go before the army? Where will they go when the army goes away?
Here you get honest and passionate Van Halen fans. Sure you have your "Roftards" and "Redheads" and the occassional Gary fan. But its more about the VH spirit here. Not a site of worship of one particular person. Some (and lately many) threads have turned into a "one versus the other", but in all its in good fun.
Kind of like when Dave says, "what is rock & roll without conflict".
I basically check out the ARMY to see if there is anything original there. There hardly ever is, just the same banter by people who so fucking similar and closed minded its hard to believe thats it not just one person with 1,000 user names.

Are there differences bewteen Van Roth, Van Hagar and Van Cherone?
You bet there are.
All are totally different bands that went with different styles.
If a band does the same thing on every album, you start to sound like AC/DC.
Eddie is alot more creative than Angus or Malcom Young. Even Brian Young for that matter.
He meshed his creativity with other singers and got different results.
While Van Roth was straight "in your face" rock and roll, Van Hagar was a more melodic, yet still at times in your face. And Van Cherone was quite eclectic and a departure from traditional VH.
Fans bought the first 2 installments of the band, and only a small percentage of fans bought the 3rd.
Who really fucking knows the exact number of sales worldwide between the first 2 eras?

But when Van Hagar came out, rock music was just really getting going in top 40 airplay.
If you had bands like Green Day and Creed in 1984, they would be only heard on "ROCK" stations while the top 40 stations would be playing AIR SUPPLY and BLONDIE.
Its a whole different day now.
Think if Van Roth were in its hey day right now, songs like JUMP, DANCE THE NIGHT AWAY, & ATBL would be getting a shitload of airplay on top 40. Would we then be saying that VAN HALEN SOLD OUT?

I love the first 2 eras of VH, I liked the 3rd a little.
So my loyalties are with the band VAN HALEN, not particularly with any singer, but I have my own opinion of which singer in the year 2002 would be the best suited for this band. Doesn't mean I hate the other 2, just who I think is better for today and the future.

PEACE

'Old Van Halen, when I was in it-classic Van Halen-makes you wanna drink, dance and screw, right? And the new Van Halen encourages you to drink milk, drive a Nissan and have a relationship.' - David Lee Roth.

Good post, Eddymon! My interest in VH is what keeps me coming here, not a partisian affiliation to DLR/SH/GC. I stopped visiting the Army message boards months ago because I was tired of the bashing going on -- the one thing I dig about VHLinks is that a lot of regulars offer constructive (and intelligent) arguments/comments.

I just wish VH would get on with their next incarnation so all this crazy speculation would end.

it's all about van halen, i loved the roth/hagar eras and i liked vh3 alittle.
if they go with a 4th singer i will give that a chance to before i make up my mind.
you have to give everything a chance before you can say you like or dislike it.
van halen shall return. what you think is nothing might be something after all.

As far as the ARMY goes....I'd rather debate with people who disagree with me. I get that here. Everybody pretty much would agree with me over there...that's no fun.
I like some aspects of the army like all the damn smilies and avatars and the option of putting pics in your sig line, but other than that and all the downloads, sitting there starting and discussing pro roth topics successfully is as easy as shooting fish in a barrel. The mix of pro sam fans here makes for better discussions....and better arguments. I think people here are really thinking about VH and Roth and Sammy and approach things from their hearts and minds. The Army, God bless it, it is a good place for people who want to agree with everyone else about how great roth is. I like debating people here. Yeah, it gets a little heated and Brett has to lay the Smackdown on us, but life is good here. I wouldn't trade it. Life is always more interesting where there is conflict. I'm not downing the Army, cause like I said they have a lot of cool downloads and stuff. I respect both sites for different reasons. For the record, I post here about 200000% more than I do there. I just need a little conflict to get my mind rolling. This is home until someone tells me I can't come back.

Carry on, just needed to add my two cents.
Van Halen without the original 4 is just not Van Halen.
