What if they put together BOV2 as a double-disc set, featuring new songs with Dave and Sam, and did one last farewell concert... a pay-per-view job featuring a Dave set and Sammy set, then jammed with both at the HOF?

At least we'd have closure.

Right on, guys. You are in an ever increasing pool of VH fans that are now saying cut the bullshit and put up or shut up. I am happy to live with memories and my album collection. I don't need any more strife on the bandfront.

I agree. They should release a BOV2 with the Sammy "Stairway to Heaven-ish" song and the new songs they recorded with Roth summer of 2000. And if they have any concert footage in the can from 84 they should release it on DVD. They don't need to tour to support such releases. Which should be easy on them since they don't like Sam or Dave. Then the Bros. VH can leave the fans on a high note with some new material and go off into the sunset and hang it up. But they should also make it clear that that is their intention.
"We don't act this way because we're in a rock band; we're in a rock band because we ARE this way." David Lee Roth - 1983

I think anything the band does that involves new music by either singer being released is a positive step. Not the greatest band in the world but it only took an Unplugged performance to bring the original KISS lineup back for a reunion tour and album. I'll take anything at this point as long as it's not Cherone or a fourth.

Little known tidbit: BOV1 was supposed to be a double-disc set but Hagar was afraid that the Roth era would sell more.

Now, why Edward went with one instead of the double idea I don't know.

I would have made it a double!

These guys are musicians. They are not going to "hang it up". How many times did The Who hang it up? Ozzy? Remember the "No More Tours" tour?Music is in their blood and it is all they know.
They will always have the itch to present their craft to the masses in one way or another. Barring medical or family issues, I can't see VH ever pulling the plug. imho.

I think the topic is about 'hanging it up' as the band "Van Halen".

Ed and Al can still play music all they want.

HFS,
Personally I wouldn't mind it, but it would be nothing more than a funeral ceremony for VH. It would be great if all the incarnations of Van Halen could live in peace and create music without the acrimony. As much as the polarizations here focus on Sam vs. Dave, I think the fair shame of blame for the failure of Van Halen to continue has to lie with the brothers. They seem to be content letting fans rip the past singers to shreds, making the divide larger in the only fan forum out there not under their editorial control. Would Eddie still be on the sidelines if every thread labeled him as a 'crutch leaning, cancer riddled, alcoholic has-been' the way the 'Dave-bald-can't sing/Sam-fat-can't sing' groups tear each other up? Frankly, I'm just another of the growing majority of tired-of-the-bullshit fans of the once mighty Van Halen, albeit partial to the Dave era, who want to see the brothers pay a small fraction of respect to their dwindling audience by making some kind of effort to continue their artistry or call it a day.
