Def Leppard played the WHISKEY club in LA last night. Super small venue. Pretty damn cool.

Aside from the new songs, the only interesting element to this set is the resurrection of "Excitable." I'd like to hear that live. Otherwise, it looks like they will play the same songs they always do, in basically the same order they always do.

Actually...... "Excitable" was part of the set in 2018 and 2019. So not really that new either.

But let's be real here... On a STADIUM TOUR with Motley Crue and Poison, they are going to play the HITZZZ! All bands are going to have a greatest hits set with a few new tunes. Deep cuts are going to be rare if they happen at all.

If you want deep cuts, you should have seen Def Leppard at their Vegas residencies a few time. Lots of variety there.

Joe's upper register is GONE. He sounds find at the lower notes, but when he gets to the higher chorus like in Bringing on the Heartbreak, or the 2nd verse in Photograph, it's awful.

I know that video a couple posts back sounds okay, but that's because he's muffled. I just spent the last 2 days driving to pick up my daughter from college and my son and I listened to the whole Whiskey show on Hair Nation....his voice was up front and center on that and the higher notes simply aren't in his reach anymore. Very weak.

It is interesting that he sounds so good on the lower stuff but the higher stuff is just gone...it's not like he had a Robert Plant/Steve Perry or even a Sammy-like high voice to begin with. I wonder if they're tuned down at all or if not, have the tried it.

The new stuff isn't bad at all, either.

The good news for this tour is, he'll still sound way better than Vince Neal will.

Joe’s had to go to falsetto for the high notes for years. Good enough for live stuff. But I think it really limits what they can do songwriting-wise. A big part of what made the early records great was him being able to sing full throat in high registers. That’s been missing from their music since the mid ‘90’s.
The new album is pretty much what I expected, which is the same as their last few; a couple decent tunes, and a bunch of forgettable filler…

Nikki Sixx has said recently the the Crue will be digging out some deep cuts... Be interesting to see which ones they play...

Yeah, I mentioned that possibility over in the CRUE topic. I am hoping for Take me to the Top or Toast of the Town.

BUT with Def Lep, it is going to be all hits plus a couple new.

Gave Def's new album a listen the last couple of days. Four songs resonated with me: Take What You Want, All We Need, Angels, From Here to Eternity. I also kind of liked SOS Emergency, Open Your Eyes, and Gimme a Kiss.
