If Van Halen dissolves, where will you turn for your musical satisfaction?
Is there anything that qualifies as a substitute?

I would say that i would wait for Eric Johnson to put out a new album, and I would plan on seeing him live. I would also wait for Roth to put out a solo album. And finally, I would hit up the music stores and get me some more Sabbath and CCR cd's. Also, I would hope that VH would release some unreleased stuff.
Lets Hope VH gets some Sensible Shoes that lead them back to Dave.

To begin with, Van Halen is my favorite band, but it's not the end of the world, nor are they the only band in the world.

Van Halen is already dissolved as far as I'm concerned.
"There's a Japanese term called wabi-sabi, not wasabi, but wabi-sabi. It means an appreciation for the imperfect, the less than precision. The cowboy boots that you never polish because it's bad luck. That is completely wabi-sabi. Van Halen is that." - DLR 2002<br /><br />"Look! I can see their parachutes! They're ok..." - Tenshinhan, DragonBall Z

Well, I've been doing okay the last 3 or 4 years. Living off the first 6 album plus the occasional Sammy song thrown in. Next, I'll probably get CD's of their bootleg stuff. I figure once I get all of those, it'll keeping me going for the next couple years. Hopefully, the Backstreet Boys, Britney Spears thing would have blown over.

As far as turning towards new music, I think most of us already have. Obviously, I'll still follow Sammy Hagar, and I'd hope that Dave puts out another quality CD like The DLR Band album.
But, I happen to be incredibly optimistic about todays rock music. I hated that grunge crap (the 90's sucked). But of todays new bands I really like:
- Sum 41
- SR 71
- Puddle of Mud
- Buckcherry
- Godsmack
It's bands like those I just listed that have renewed my faith in Rock-n-Roll.

</font>
Yeah I agree; it's over. And that's a real tough thing for me to realize, being that I bled VH red, black and white most of my life as a rock musician.
I really don't hear anything recent in rock that is all that creative or unique anymore. Lately I have listened to bands like Coldplay, The Strokes, Counting Crowes, Collective Soul etc., bands like that still play a "basic", "roots" type of Rock though are still somewhat derivative of bands like the Stones or Aerosmith. Unfortunately, those newer rock bands have yet to achieve extremely wide appeal, and they themselves may soon fade into the sunset a lot sooner than the once mighty Van Halen has.
Bands like Puddle of Mud, Linkin Park and Nickleback are good, though are still derivative and wear their influences on their sleeve. I guess that's what happens when you listen to your contemporaries too much for riffs and vocal melodies. Like when every other band sounded like Nirvana or Pearl Jam in the mid-90s, you can hear a strong mixture of Creed and Korn in newer bands too.
I still despise most rap, specifically "Em"-type sh*te (his vulgar crap has been done better years before by most black rappers anyway), but some other newer hip-hop and R&B artists are doing some creatively musical and expressive fare, and I don't mind listening to them.
What about the new crop of female pop-rockers like Avril Lavigne, Michelle Branch and Vanessa Carlton? They did give a much-needed kick in the pants to boy bands and Britney, but how long do you think they can hold it up?
Then again there's always making your own music if you can't find anything outside yourself that catches your interest. No hay dios!

How about sweet fuck all. The music scene just isn't the same without Van Halen kicking ass.

The first four albums!!! Plus whatever else I have always been into. I live and breathe Van Halen, but I honor VH more for the style of music, the attitude, the muscianship and the genre they introduced me to-classic hard rock. Unlike some people who say they love VH but then turn to their country collection, Top 40, crap(rap for short), and say they "love all kinds of music"-"What kind of music do you like?", "Oh, I like all kinds..." Well get out of my car then, because I rock!!! The last CD I bought was Down " A Bustle in Your Hedge Row" the only true hard rock album put out in 2002. I still have classic Metallica, AC/DC, Black Sabbath, Alice in Chains, Zep, Priest, Skynyrd. I am going to go see Foreigner and 38 Special at our fair. Its ROCK!!! God Bless it!!!

Yeah, same for me, I will listen to the same music I have been listening to since the band has dissappeared. KSHE Klassics, some 70's & 80's rock, & some Hard Radio on the net.
I am kind of hoping that Planet Us makes some good music. That remains to be seen/heard though.
