Yeah, I saw this too. I am very suprised he answered that.

As a side note, on Board Feedback he said he would run a bi-monthly story of his interactions with VH. That might be kinda kool. We'll see........

I take this at face value. If Sammy was back, surely Dave would know that, and then he wouldn't have released such a positive press statement.

The only way Sammy is coming back is if it's not for another year. The way the fans believe it's going to be Dave, if it's anybody other than Dave, they're going to have to allow a fairly long cooling off period to gain any new singer any acceptance. Even Sammy. Even then, there would be a backlash, it would be inevitable.

and I'm not baggin' on Sam, but even if VH waited another year or so, that makes sammy 60 doesn't it????

Plus, despite him being 7 years older than Dave, Sammy's voice has aged much better than Dave's has.

C'mon seriously! Sam's voice has aged much beter than Dave's has? sure if you want a guy who sings out of his nose now! Sammy can't hit the high notes on his earlier Van Halen material and that was evident on his last tour, and the only reason he was ousted from VH was his AGE but the band would probably never admit that, its just common sense! so enough with the Sam theory....

First off, I hope I'm not being misunderstood. I don't think Sammy is back in VH, nor do I think he will be. All I was saying is that IF Van Halen wanted to go with anyone but Dave, they better get rid of the Dave rumors to give the next singer a chance at success.

And I'd throw that point right back at you BS2000. Seriously, you think Dave sounds as good on his last solo album as he did on 1984? Dave's voice is in tough shape. I'm just talking studio work here. No question Sammy misses (or just ignores) the high stuff live, but listen to Dave live on his last tour. When they did Panama, after it got quiet, and Dave yelled "PANAMA" all by himself, it sounded like someone was pulling on his nuts. He was struggling big time, and it's all the more obvious without Michael filling in the holes.

I'm a bigger DLR fan than I am a Sammy fan, but Sammy's voice sounds better than Dave's voice now. Frankly, I don't think the comparison is even close. Listen to DLR Band and compare it to Dave's VH stuff, then listen to 1013 and compare it to Sammy's VH stuff. Sammy's voice has aged way better.

Maybe since he answered Sammy's not back and never answered about Dave, Dave's back! Think maybe that's why he didn't answer any Dave questions? So there a small thread of hope for Dave being back. It'd be cool to have Sammy back if not Dave. Even Gary at this point! At least we had some music, even if it wasn't that good!

dude, dave isn't, never was, and never could be the "singer" sammy is, even on sammy's worst day.
dave's strength is the ability to weave lyrics in between eddie's insanely unorthodox guitar work better than anyone, including sam.

it's like comparing apples and oranges already.

there is some amazing hagar-era music, there is amazing roth-era music.

as far as their voices are concerned with respect to aging, sammy still wins out with respect to actually carrying a tune.
dave hardly ever did that live, even in his prime.

they are just different, and i'd feel cheated without both catalogs.

I'm kind of surprised that Brad actually answered a question like that too. Frankly, I don't think Van Halen has done a damn thing with anyone since Dave left in July, so, that actually makes me feel better about this whole situation. If it's not Dave, I'm sure every single person on this list has absolutely no clue who it could be. I still have faith in Van Halen and Dave. It's all gonna work out.
