I was looking through some of the pictures I have of the Diamond One earlier and realized that I totally don't like the way he grew his hair out and bleached it blonde again in 1999. That is the most recent pic that I have and he just looks like a deranged version of himself from the 80's. I love Dave but facts are facts man, your loosing hair up top. Its not my decision but if it were I'd have to say he looked a helluva lot better with the shorter hair in 95. If you don't know what I'm talking about check out the user icon pics of him on the forum. The balck and white one from 95 makes him look so much better than the 99 one. So my point is, when he comes back I am pulling for him to sport a more clean cut hair style. Acctually I really don't care as long as he is back! What do you all think?

Ordinarily a thread about hair would turn my stomach, but this one I feel compelled to respond to. When news of the NAMM tape hit, I once again began checking the Torture Dome for some news. When many of the folks there saw Ed's haircut, all they did was bitch and moan about it. You know, "if you ain't be gottin' long hair, yu ain't no kewl rock star" bullshit. These are the same morons who think Eddie can only play well on a striped guitar. Of course we all know that short-haired people can't make music, right??
My point is, frankly I couldn't give half a rat's ass about the band's hair as long as they actually release some music. On a personal level, I think grown men in their 40's are a little old to walk around with long hair. I think it looks silly on a 20 year old, but bleached, dyed-green, rooster-spiked, or any 'weird' hairstyle on an adult is a joke. If it's really about the music, then why do so many of these guys have such ridiculous appearances? The answer can be found at the Dome; THAT'S the kind of look these people think is needed for a band or player to be 'cool'.
Why do they demand that their heroes look foolish? Easy---if a 'star' looks and acts like a regular, average joe, and god forbid actually IS an average joe in real life, these fans feel BAD about themselves. Why? Because if someone else can be 'normal' and talented, then why aren't they (themselves) so gifted? It's easier for people to accept a 'star' that looks like a freak, because it gives them an excuse to NOT have the talents that their 'stars' have.
For those of you who would reject Van Halen, or any band for that matter, because they don't fit the 'rock star' image, I feel very sorry for the world around you that has to tolerate your insecurity and stupidity. Regarding Dave, I can only hope he opts for a more sensible hair style, but it's not going to change the music one damn bit.

Short hair is cool IMHO, especially if he's growin' thin on top. You know though, how much would it really cost for a hair transplant to thicken the top? I mean really! He has the dough don't he? ...

I know what you mean:
That Ferrari is red. Therefore all red cars are Ferraris!
Nope.

Essentially, the appearance of the band is irrelevent compared to the music. That's what matters.
Admittedly, though, the pictures of DLR in '99 made me wonder if anyone pulled him aside and told him how rediculous he looked.
I still think I liked Eddie's look from the Humans Being video the best, though his current (NAMM video) one is pretty good. But since Balance was the first time I ever put names and faces together, him with long hair always looked a little odd to me

Everyone is right when they say it doesn't matter about what they look like as long as the music is their! I was just commenting on my opinion. I really don't care, but you know...
I saw a lot about EVH hair though and just had to say the Balance look was my fav. The spiked hair with blonde tips just looked great on him. Made him look younger too.

Achievements:
There's certain pictures of Dave on his 1999 tour that make him look like Dr. Brown in Back to the Future.
I think Dave is, like anyone, a slave to the lighting of the moment. In some pictures he looks like he's only lost a bit of hair and in some pictures he looks like he's lost a lot. Either way, I'm more interested in what he's got in his 46 year old vocal chords, not what he's got on his 46 year old head.
Having said that, there's no question that there's certain behavior's (like strutting around a rock and roll stage) that look cooler the younger you look. You're crazy if you think that the Rolling Stones would still be as popular on the concert circuit if Mick Jagger was dancing around with a huge beer gut and a combover.
I didn't like Dave's outfits on his last tour, he seemed to be trying too hard to be younger and hipper, but whatever. It ultimately rides on the music.
