July 9, 2002 | EDDIE VAN HALEN and VALERIE BERTINELLI confirmed today through a spokesperson that they have been separated since October. The couple met backstage at a rock concert in 1980 and were married just eight months later in April of 1981. Almost from the get-go, there were rumors that the marriage was in trouble. Eventually they became one of the music industry's longest romances. In a statement, the couple asks that their privacy is respected because they have a young son, 11-year-old WOLFGANG.

I mentioned this news back then and everybody told me I was crazy. I wish I could find that thread...remember? Val was crying in the bathroom at Roma Downey's house because she has just seperated from Ed and felt bad leaving him while he batteled Cancer. She locked herself in and they couldn't get her out.

Just saw on "Access Hollywood" that the new home Ed and Val bought "recently" was actually purchased 2 1/2 months ago. They also mentioned they've been separated since October, and the file footage of Ed shown at the golf tournament really wasn't flattering. He looked worse in that than he did in the photos that were circulated on the internet. They did say that they're remaining" very good friends", which is nice to hear. Glad to see it's not your typical Hollywood divorce.

Still feel band for them, though.
