When these fools finally come out of the closet, release an album, and hit the road what do you think Dave's stage act will be? Do we believe that the old, "I'm gonna f**k your girlfriend" and old tired out lines DLR uses will be permitted by the brothers? Somehow I think they probably sat him down and said listen Dave we don't do that smack anymore. I can't see Dave stopping the band so he can play his no one is going to fool with me game. That may have worked 15-20 years ago, but I doubt it is going to work now. If he does pull that crap, I can see the fans saying, yeah whatever you blowhard.

it would be best for the band if "Dave was Dave".

I guess, but what that not the reason Dave was booted in 96', becuase "Dave was Dave?" What are the fan's going to say when Dave says, "if you don't cut that out, I'm going to f your girlfriend." Yeah whatever grandpa. 1984 is over.

I really don't think that Ed's heart was totally into it back in '96, as well as Alex's.
But Mike seemed to be enjoying it though.
Gary WAS allready in the picture in Ed's mind. IMO 'Old Van Halen, when I was in it-classic Van Halen-makes you wanna drink, dance and screw, right? And the new Van Halen encourages you to drink milk, drive a Nissan and have a relationship.' - David Lee Roth.

No way the VH Bros. will put up with it night after night. The embarrassing behavior has got to go. VH is not Marilyn Manson or Limp Biscuit. They are mature adults. I hope Dave can tone it down a bit.

Achievements:
you guys better brace yourselves for the Dave worshipers' wrath...
it's real simple though - if anyone wants to see 50 year olds pretending to be 18, then i really don't know what to say. it's not my bag. i'd like to see the focus be on the music, plain and simple. it's not 1984 anymore, and let's face it, 80s flash is pretty much a joke these days. that schtick wasn't cool then, either, but nobody knew any better.
you know what i wouldn't mind seeing? and EXTREMELY powerful VH performance that harkens back to the days when they used to blow the roof off the club they were in.
there was no room for surfboards or samurai swords back then, nobody thought the show sucked, and you got the shit kicked out of you by the most powerful live band in the world!
they'd never be looked down on if they put on an honest rock and roll show that you can't help but respect.-VanEdge

Please be patient...I will eventually get to the point...
Over the past several months I have really gotten into YFLM...and I freely admit that I love this album. When I got the tourbook, the pictures caught me a little off-guard. Dave was laid back and casual (black jeans, plain shirts, short hair, etc.) I started conversing with a few from the DLR Army who had actually seen a show...they all seemed to like it, although they said it was different.
I recently acquired a video boot of a YFLM show. Dave was totally toned down...in appearance and performance...and I thought it was GREAT. (Although I do admit that I may not be totally objective ) Over half of the show was YFLM tunes, with some other solo stuff, and only 2 VH songs. I thought the YFLM tunes were great live, and was glad he performed that many.
For those who haven't seen a YFLM show...Dave did grow up, but the public didn't accept it. I'm sure part of it was his new "image" and part was due to the change in musical direction. IMO this show represented the "real" Dave more than the 80's did, and I hope he's like this for the reunion.
So, long story short...Dave can tone things down. I just don't know if he will...especially if he thinks the fans won't support it."My belligerent enthusiasm is as optimistic as ever" - DLR

I don't think he'll go with the "I'm gonna fuck your girlfriend, pal!" stuff but he will undoubtably say the big ones like "Look at all the people here tonight!"
I don't want them to get up there and just play though - a few Dave antics livens up the show - I think we will see a fair bit of Dave antics but maybe just not as out there as the things he used to say in the early 80s.RD<br /><br />"Rock 'n' Roll is my second favourite thing in the whole world" - DLR (1983)<br /><br />"We don't go for perfection, we just go for spirit." - EVH (1981)

feel Roth followers wrath...hahaha...so true...so true...
Now here comes the truth...
Permitted by the brothers...don't you think at this point...that Van Halen's power clout is over. Is ANY version of this band going to be accepted? Nope. Ask Cherone. Dave has as much power and value at this point as Ed and Alex and Michael for that matter. Without Dave...they are done as a band. Sure they'll be able to come out with another album and another singer...but it will never be the same as far as musical power without the original. So permit Dave to be Dave? Yeah, like that'll happen...
As far as Dave being booted in 96...let's face facts here. Ed never intending on having Dave back with the band. He used the hell out of him to sell the BOV1...plain and simple. He knew the antics would be there. He knew that Dave would do his thing. Eddie saying it was because of that is complete bullshit. Ask fucking Beck for christ sake. He won the award and said he was glad Dave was Dave.
For one night...everything was right again...
Eddie killed it that night...he won't again...
Van Halen...David Lee Roth...what comes with that is great music. If you don't dig the stage show they put on...I have to question whether you can be a fan...because Original Van Halen were the best live performers...bar none.
So if you're tired of it...grab a Classic disc...pop it in...and let it slap the cheese out of ya...EUAS

Actually, I kind of look for DLR to make fun of himself on the next tour. Turn it into a walking parody of how he used to act, because, well, for a man of almost 50 to be acting like he's in his 20s and MEANING it is sad. To be doing it tongue in cheek is funny.

Dave will always be a showman period......
whether he is telling the crowd that he wants to F their sister or just having a good ol' time on stage like he always did, it will be better for he & the band to just be themselves.
That is one of the things that made them a big box office draw, and is what the fans have all come to love.
Not a short haired singer bending over in front of Eddie and an MTV audience reaching down between there legs and feeling up their OWN ass and crotch.
But then again I don't want to see Dave screwing a giant microphone either.
Eddie, Alex and Mike should do what they do best (play music).
and Dave do what Dave does best, (entertain the fans and sing classics) 'Old Van Halen, when I was in it-classic Van Halen-makes you wanna drink, dance and screw, right? And the new Van Halen encourages you to drink milk, drive a Nissan and have a relationship.' - David Lee Roth.

That's fine Eddymon, we know that Dave will continue to be a showman, but feel it needs to be more of a mature version than the 1984 banter we are used to.

Eddymon, the microphone "up the behind" deal and the spitting down his pants is the type thing Im talking about. All the jumping, kicking, screaming, surfboard riding stuff I find entertaining.

First off, I don't think the '96 fiasco was a sneaky maneuver by Ed. He has said in several interviews that MTV and WB have a LOT of pull when it comes to things like that. And considering the musical trends of '96, VH was persona non grata once Sammy left, and in no place to argue with the powers that be. It's a shame the way that went down, but nothing is gonna take that back now.
The BIG question is whether or not VH's next tour (assuming Dave is in) will be a nostalgia tour or a 'legitimate' tour for a new cd. If they decide to be a nostalgia act, then I expect Dave WILL act as he did 20 years ago. Not because he means it, but because they would be TRYING to evoke the past.
If it is NOT just a nostalgia tour, then I would expect a more mature Dave on stage. I have seen the tape of the '96 fiasco many times, and Dave really wasn't acting all that badly. But I guess the band needed a 'company line' to feed the media and fans. Just what we all want--a friggin' form letter from a band, as it were.
Personally, I think if they REALLY want to have a hell of a tour, they will have lighting and sound to rival the Stones' Bridges to Babylon tour, and I'm sure a few surprises as well. I just hope they don't charge that much $$$.Don't bark at me...<b>I</b> didn't name ya.
