Well, barring the events of september 11,
Are we here to celebrate Van Halen's musical legacy or to procrastinate over their future?
Van Halen have left enough music to satisfy me for the rest of my miniscule life let alone the last 3 years.
I joined the LINKS because I thought I would be able to communicate with like minded Van fans from around the world, not cynical naysayers who are too quick to stick the knife in,and let's face it ,they're enough of those in the mainstream media as it is without so-called fans bashing the band anytime they feel the chance.
I am looking for a site that really does appeciate what Van Halen have done and will do in the future, not what they are'nt doing now.
Is VHLINKS.COM it, or are we on a continuous soap opera whingefest?

It's not US who are doing the procrastinating.
Van Halen have left enough music to satisfy me for the rest of my miniscule life let alone the last 3 years.
Ok then...good for you. The rest of us have been led to believe that the band has been working on music for their next cd.

I think 2 years, 10 months, and 25 days or so far surpasses any 'too quick' remarks. We've waited far too long as it is.
I am looking for a site that really does appeciate what Van Halen have done and will do in the future, not what they are'nt doing now.
There is a lot to this site, and most of the people here certainly DO appreciate what VH has done, but...you just said it yourself: "will do in the future". We can't rehash the past much more; this place has had almost a quarter million posts!

Ummm...VH has caused the soap opera. For chrissake, it's been almost 3 years since Gary was let go, and they have nothing to show for that time frame. There is simply no VH to really talk about now, here or anywhere else. It's going to stay that way until they act, or at least announce something CONCRETE.
Their attitude and behavior over this drought is a lousy way to treat a fan base, and they deserve every whine, bitch, moan, and complaint they get at this point.
Am I still a 'fan'? Yep. But, due to their poor way of handling the situation, I will not buy the next (if there is one) release. I refuse to financially support them; it's my only real 'voice' in the matter. If they would tour, I would not buy a ticket. I MIGHT consider going if someone gave me a ticket, and even then, I would not buy so much as a t-shirt this time around. Sure, they won't know that I refused to buy anything, but I will, and that's about all I can do.
If I was just satisfied to listen to what they've done in the past, I wouldn't be here to begin with. As it stands, I come here to converse with fellow fans about OTHER things. I've made some friends here, and I've made some enemies, just like anywhere else in the world. This place is another community, brought TOGETHER by a common interest, but not bound to or limited by that impetus.
If you have some great new insightful angle to discuss about the band, great-let's hear it. Otherwise, we've been over the same ground ad infinitum. That's why there are forums here that do NOT relate to the band-to allow us a place to shoot the shit and call each other silly names and talk about the minutae of life.
I am speaking for myself here, and do not claim to be representative of anyone else's opinions, but I am sure that many others agree with me: after (basically) 3 solid years of NOTHING, the old topics are, well, old. One would be hard pressed to introduce the same old stuff and expect to get a flood of responses at this point. Many users have been here for a LONG time and have simply grown tired of the same 'Sam vs Dave' topics, the 'name the next singer' threads, the 'best song from 1984' posts, etc.
People feel let down at this point, and if you really notice, even whining about it is an old, overdone topic. What's left to talk about? Like the Starship Enterprise, we are here to seek out new life, new civilizations. Even Captain Kirk eventually took an administrative job, and didn't return to the ship until some bizarre NEW challenge arose out of the ether.
It sucks that this is the way it is, but the band brought it upon us, and they've brought it upon themselves. That's not cynicism; it's reality. And it's a shame.Don't bark at me...I didn't name ya.
