I have an interview of Eddie from 1984 tour on cassette, it was one of the rare interviews he gave back then, and it's really good. All of this NAMM talk about him and all of these years of silence made me think of something he said in that interview. He said:

"I wanted us to be successful, but I never bargained for all of this"

Then, in a shaky voice, very shy and very honest, he said:

"I would love to be the invisible man .... and just play"

And the interviewer said "Well why dont you just stand behind a curtain?"

Eddie said, in the saddest voice: "Because they won't let me"

The THEY he referred to was Dave and Al and whoever, not the fans. He said Al would throw drumsticks at him and yell "Move! Move!" "Jump around!"

Maybe Eddie VH got his wish and is finally having his way and is enjoying being the invisible man, making music at 5150 and recording for films and hiding from us.

Sad for us in a way, but maybe this is what Eddie always wanted.

That's easy to say after millions in sales and multi platinum recordings.

considering some of the stuff that's been written about him in the last few years on these boards by his fans i wouldn't be suprised if he was choosing to be more invisible! would you share your music with people if u thought you were gonna be abused and insulted?

Well, he looked pretty happy on stage to me!

If he wants to be the invisible man, he should pump out 4 or 5 more studio albums and not do interviews or tour. It would certainly be better than no new VH at all.

That's interesting because in the early days Eddie was pissed because none of the magazines wanted to interview him. (From Guitar World, 1st interview with EVH).

With all the talk of movie and TV scores, there is still plenty to be shared, and be given back.It is no less soulful to take a scene on film or TV and punctuate it with a piece of music that encapsulates what they are trying to convey emotionally.

Looking at this from the view of the first post, Ed still gets to make a living and create new music for a purpose that we still get to have access to without any of the drawbacks that come with being a rock star.

Maybe in his 20 plus years of touring he doesn't want to paint on the smile, and "act out" rock star anymore. Does it Make the music worse if it is created for a different medium?

EDDIE has said in several times that he is very very shy, that he doesn't really like to do videos, and all the ROCK STAR lifestyle but he LOVES PLAYING LIVE.
I remember that on a MTV interview he said he would prefere to be just playing music not giving interviews, and you can also hear him say on the RHRN VIDEO that all the porpouse of making music is to play it LIVE.

My guess is that he really hates being a ROCK STAR, if you remember at the GOLF TOURNAMENT, when they presented Eddie, they said "RockStar Eddie Van Halen", so he went with the announcer and he corrected "MUSICAN EDDIE VAN HALEN".

On a Guitar World interview he said that some critics couldn't belive they were having such a good time onstage, and then Eddie said "How can you fake having fun everynight, you would of notice if we didn't have fun onstage".
    I respect that.

"I could call it anything, but the only word I can think of is Brown. It's just a warm sound. Warm, big, majestic" - Eddie Van Halen on his Tone

"Van Halen is definitely a ladies band, and I´ve got the Polaroids to prove it". - David Lee Roth

WOLFGANG did the IMPOSSIBLE, he brought back VAN HALEN, DEAL WITH IT.

    Funny Glenn.

In the same interview Lisa Robinson asks him what it's like to be a rock star and Eddie says "Rock Star? What is a rock star? Sounds like something outta the Flinstones...Hi, Im from Bedrock, Im Joe Rock Star..."

Then he goes on to say that he thinks of a rock star as someone wearing tight spandex pants, etc...and "I wear the clothes on stage that I do because...they'll beat me up if I don't...cause all I wanna do is play..."

He comes across as very insecure, shy and humble.

It's not that he doesn't want to share the music, he just wished he was invisible and could make music and share it without all the BS that comes along with it I guess.

I like Eddie and all, but im beginning to think Eddie is nothing but a big whiney baby. What good is a rockstar that doesnt want to be a rockstar? And if the "They" he's referring to is the rest of the band not letting him do certain hings, well thats makes it even more pathetic. This crying around about how the others guys in the band wont let himm do shit is old. Stand up and be a man and have some control over your wn band you big ball bag.

If he doesnt want to be famous he could have just made records and not toured for all of those albums. Maybe it is best for him to do what he's doing and stay out of the public eye. He's pissed away the last 7 years which could have been great for rock n roll anyway. Its like he thinks he's God or something.
