It used to be my favorite Sammy era album but it's been replaced by 5150 for that honor. I think it's a great album. Great pounding intro song with Seventh Seal, some great ballads (Not Enough, Can't Stop Lovin you). They get nailed for having bad lyrics, but I like both Amsterdam and Big Fat Money. Take Me Back is a great song, and it's cool to hear the intro that they used all the way back in the club days to start the song. And Feelin is one of the most powerful introspective songs that Van Halen has ever done. Crossing Over is also a great song, even though I've only burned it from mp3 format, that should have been on the Balance album worldwide.

I love Balance! It's an awsome album! I think it's VH's most mature work. The only song I don't like is BFM. Amsterdam is cool. People pick on the lyrics, but I don't think they're listening to the song as a whole. It's a travelling story. The production on this album is near-perfect.
As far as moving this to opinions, well, bah-humbug on that. We're talking about an album, not the band. This is where it belongs.

Awards:
Excellent production, but I really only like about half the songs on here - i think that piano bashing thing kinda breaks the album up a bit too... I like the album, but prefer 5150 or FUCK

my least fav VH album. only good thing was production. the songs were bland and the inclusion of strung out is a felony, IMO. as for the lyrics....
i did like crossin over.

My favorite Sammy era album.
FUCK was such a boring, run-of-the-mill, letdown album that I was really worried that they lost there edge.
My faith in VH was restored with this one.

This was my first VH-studio album, it has a special meaning to me. I had BOV1 before, but Balance got me really into Van Halen.
Great songs, great production...
I never really cared for strun out, though...

By far the best mixed album. As far as the material, I dig about 10 of the 12 songs.

I think Balance has it's moments in Amsterdam, Feelin and the sickest riff of all time in Aftershock. Big call but it is fuckin sick
