I have a big problem with that list. EVH is # 1. Carlos Santana ahead of Eddie??? C'mon! The only reason the VH1 yuppies put him ahead of Ed was because he finally got noticed commercially this past year. What about all the great guitar work he did in the 70's? Nobody ever gave a damn before. Ed is in the all-time top 3. Plug in who you like.

    ok:
    1)Hendrix: i don't like it very much but it will always be the first;
    2)EVH: need to comment?
3)Clapton during the Cream years was great, after that i never liked him
    4)Page: made the rock history.
5)Ritchie Blackmore: never mentioned, but to me a big innovator!
    6)Jeff Beck: great musician!
7)Peter Green (anybody knows him out there?)
    8)ME! ....joking!!

    That would be my list.
Yeah Santana is great to many people just because he's got an album out now and great success...
You'll see that when VH will start touring we'll see EVH 2nd! (or maybe 1st)

That list is crap. See how many guitar publications, by GUITAR EXPERTS, would have Beck, Santana, and King in their Top Ten? If it were a perfect world, or to be more exact, an honest list on innovation and accomplishments, I think it would be more like this, in almost this order:

    1) Edward Van Halen
    2) Jimi Hendrix
    3) Jimmy Page
    4) Eric Clapton
    5) Stevie Ray Vaughan
    6) Randy Rhoads
    7) Steve Vai
    8) Chuck Berry
    9) Les Paul
    10)Brian May

That list, as most "Best Guitar" player lists are, is comical.
Eddie should place no lower than 2nd in any poll. He is a strong #1 in my book because I grew up on him and I have seen his impact first hand. There isn't a band out there that doesn't owe Eddie something.
His scope of influence is challenged only by Hendrix.
Added to the indignity - where is Pete Townsend / Brian May? (personal favorites of mine)

That list is a joke! Eddie should be number #1 and Vai is a better player than all those other guy's. I also would have put Nuno on there.

I like Clapton a lot, but I think he's way overrated as well.
