Is anybody else out there a little bit pissed off about spending your $$$ on Van Halen DVD's that suck?
God damn!!! How hard can it be to produce a great Live VH Concert? I have Right Here Right Now and it totally blows.
Why does it blow?
Because the producer wants us to enjoy his special effects and quick split-second every second camera angle changes, instead of letting us watch the boys play.
Hey moron Musical DVD Producers,
We buy the DVD's to feel like we are watching the show live, not to watch your idiotic pseudo-artistry!
When Eddie has his solo, we get to see it through what looks to be fabric, split into 3 horizontal segments on the screen, and in black and white. Plus, all the camera angle changes. I just want to watch Eddie play. That is so fundamentally basic, yet these assholes do it on almost every live DVD I've bought for all the musicians I like.
And my Best Of VH DVD sucks because the soundtrack is way out of synch, and because Dave only has like 3 videos on it.
Anybody else pissed off about any of the things I've mentioned?Buttocks and crotches and nipples with wings, these are a few of my favorite things!

I'm mostly pissed off at the fact that there's tons of classic live Van Halen footage lying around being put to no good use other than making money for bootleggers. In the absence of new material, some old stuff would be nice.

Yes and yes. I'd like some old stuff (oakland 81) too and the rhrn dvd really does bite. The first time I saw it I was really dissapointed in how much they tried to run with the 5150 sign in the air that people were making with their hands. I remember in lwan, they caught that once and it was pretty much the pinnacle of the video. They couldn't have captured a better shot at a better moment (I think it was during cathedral), but then they saw it was cool and did it like fifty times in rhrn and it really came out lame.

If they would just release Oakland '81, all would be right with the world.

I agree with everything you guys are saying . Theres got to be tons of stuff laying around in their vaults you think they could release something for us and yes Oakland `81 would be tops on my list . I`ve read that some shows in `84 were proshot but how nice would a show from `79 or `80 be
You may think I`m being mean but I`m really just being sarcastic

Has the band ever stated why they haven't released any old shows. '78-'84 I could see not wanting to do this during the Sammy era, but what's the excuse today?!
It must be Eddie & Al's wonderful work ethic trying to perfect a live dvd.I am the long lost 5th member of VH.

I agree with the previous posts' guys. I just dont understand the reason for not releasing some of the old material. It certainly would make sense with the lack of any new music from the band.
Its a mystery that continues to go on and on and on......

I remember either Eddie or Mike (he's a big VH bootleg collector) saying that they would eventually release a lot of the old stuff when they are too old to run around on stage and tour. So I guess this means when they are officially retired. I read this around the time Balance was coming out.
Since Eddie hasn't said he's ready to call it quits (well, he hasn't really said anything), all the footage we want to see will continue to be stuck in limbo.

The sound of the RHRN DVD is much better to my ears than the album of the same name. And it's also a better grouping of songs. I would go as far as saying that the DVD would be amazing IF the video from it was a single concert, not jumping back and forth like it does. That is incredibly lame and difficult to watch and it amazes me that they okayed its release after viewing it.
The Video Hits DVD is a mess strictly on the basis that it is woefully incomplete. How many videos do VH have that aren't on there?? FAR too many!!
LWAN should be released on DVD immediately!!
And it's absolutely criminal that a band with VH's history has an entire important era that isn't documented with a live concert.

Do these quick cuts (changing camera shots) make anyone else dizzy while they watch music videos?Buttocks and crotches and nipples with wings, these are a few of my favorite things!

I've got that Ozzy Live and Loud, it does suck, pieced together from about 4-5 shows looks like. BTW, if anyone wants the complete Oak. '81 recording shoot me a line. Some guy from California sent it to me for an 'NSync boot

I've seen that Live and Loud DVD for pretty cheap a few times lately but I have no interest in it because of the same costume change problem that plagues the RHRN set. The Live and Loud cd's are good enough for me. And the Budakon DVD is done right.
What would be my wet dream in all this would be a live concert from the DLR era of VH, with a feature allowing you to watch any individual band member exclusively, from the start of the concert to the end. That way, on any given viewing, you could just sit there and watch Eddie from start to finish, only seeing the other members when Eddie was next to them. Then you could watch again and just watch Al beat the shit out of the kit for 90 minutes straight. And so on....
This will probably happen, don't ya think???

How about a DVD from every tour? I suppose it would be overkill, but who the hell cares??

Even for a normal person all it really takes is an emotional set back and it can alter your personality big time. Some recover a lot do not. I think about how a guy like Eddie could do anything...
