I don't know how concerts work. I know songs played on the radio result in small royalties for the songwriters, but it would seem to me that a live concert is far less formal as a band could choose to throw in a cover song on the spur of the moment.

Legally they are required to pay performance royalties for concerts. I don't think it's on a price/song basis though - that would be way too complicated too work out. ASCAP and/or BMI collects a "reasonable" licensing fee and distributes it to the writers I think.

So in theory Dave should have been making money from Van Hagar and Van Cherone tours, and VH should have been making money from DLR and SH solo shows.

....DO you think this tour is a way to generate coin for a possible big VH reunion ??...Really , to see these two guys working together , isn't more then half of the big problem solved for a reunion ?

Warner Bros own the rights to all the VH songs recorded, so I'd imagine EVH, Alex, and Mike won't see a dime. Maybe that's why EVH is trademarking everything to make up for NOT owning the songs he wrote.

WB may own the rights to the master recordings, but i'm pretty sure the guys own their publishing. it's the publishing that pays out for performances, commercials, etc.
