I was just watching the show Classic Albums, on Much Music up here in Toronto. They were doing a bio on Def Leppard's Hysteria album.
Which got me thinking....if they did a Classic Album bio on a Van Halen album, which one would you most like for them, to do it on?

I`d like it to be their 1st album but it would probably be done on 1984 .

This is most interesting question I have seen here in at least a year, or more. My picks would be either 1984 or 5150.

The one thing that came to mind, is because of the format of the show, I think it would be hard for them to actually profile VH1. Most of the songs were already written well in advance of the time they hit the studio.
Fair Warning might be an interesting one for them to do. Not that they would ever do it, due to the fact it has never been considered a major commercial success. But from all accounts there was a great deal of bitterness between Dave and Ed at the time,(when wasn't there though?) so it might make for an interesting episode.
1984 seemed to have the most new material and was probably Van Halen's biggest commercial success. So I agree, that it would probably be the album they would profile.
Not that it would be my pick though...

It would most likely be either Van Halen, 1984 or 5150. I'd say it would end up being 1984 though. Which in my opinion isn't exactly their ultimate album.

VH1 and 5150 would be a good compare and contrast episode...

Why hasnt anybody approached Eddie about doing an episode? This would be a great idea!
Imagine Ed sitting at the console at 5150 and telling ya little secrets about how the album was made.
BTW i saw the Def Leppard show too. Where the hell was Mutt lange?? He appears twice in what appears to be some old 90's interview. Is this guy too busy with Shania or what?

Mutt Lange is a real personal guy. He doesn't do interviews or anything. I hear he is just a studio rat !!!

I also think that it would be either 1984 or 5150 if they did a special on them. Their last 10 million copy album and their first #1 album. Take your pick, you couldn't lose.

I think 1984 would be the one they would do as well. Take your pick VH1, 1984, or 5150 would all be great albums to profile and all should be considered "classic" albums. But I think that 1984 is different from the others, in that, before 1984 most of the people who recognized VH and how great they were, were probably just the "headbangers" and those people that liked just hard rock. When 1984 hit and songs like "Jump", "Panama", and "Hot for Teacher" climbed the pop charts it braught a whole new following to VH. The casual fan, who knew of VH, but really didn't listen to them that much now were buying 1984 and probably many of their previous albums as well. Were it not for Madonna, Michael Jackson and Prince 1984 probably would have been their first no.1 album. After 1984, even after their lead singer who had braught them to that point was gone, VH did not have an album not make it to no.1(not sure about VH3) That goes to show what that album did for them, not to mention it is a kick ass album front to back, and personally I would have to say that it is probably my favorite VH album. Fans that listened to VH before 1984 came out knew how great they were. 1984 made EVERYBODY know how great they are.

Awards:
Considering the other albums that show tend to profile are nearly always huge mainstream hit albums, I'd say 1984 would easily be it.
