IN THE NOVEMBER ISSUE:

Valerie Bertinelli
She stood by her man, Eddie Van Halen, through alcohol, cancer and more. Now she reveals why she had to leave -- and the 3 steps she's taking to feel stronger, happier and ready to love again.

I read the article and I have to say, no matter how much I am a fan of Ed's work & artistry, I really don't have much respect for what he did to their marriage. I realize that addicts' brains basically are broken, but it's downright amazing how much destruction & heartache they can cause.

Points of note:
They are definitely split up and sharing custody of Wolfie. Wolf stays w/ Ed in LA during the school year if Val is away in Canada filming Touched By An Angel.

Val says Ed was first diagnosed with tongue cancer in '99 and had part of his tongue removed. After being diagnosed cancer-free, he started smoking again. He also had one or two alcohol relapses. His cancer returned and Doctor's gave him a 50% chance of survival.
He's a hopeless case I guess. Val doesn't mention anything about infidelity or other dirty laundry that most likely exists.

In short, it's a fluffy women's magazine article. (God forbid it goes into any serious depth.) Anyway, that's what Val is saying...

he was cancer free, it came back, but then was given a clean bill of health again

Well, Eddie is unquestionably a badass on guitar, but I don't think he's a model citizen. I've never looked up to celebrities or wanted to be like them when I grew up. I like Van Halen for their music. Nothing else. Sure, its disappointing when we see people we like destroy themselves. I don't want anyone to die. But, that's how it goes sometimes. His actions are frustrating at times. However, I don't know the whole story. Only Eddie and Valarie know that. Let's hope the fear of death has gotten him on the right track so he can make us and himself happy again.

I believe Valerie endured more than most good women should. Actually, Sammy and Eddie have a lot in common when it comes to how they treat their women.

Valerie deserves all of our respect as she really did try. Through everything.

In fact she was all for the reunion.
