i've been foloowing VH since 1979 and when i just saw his name over at the official site it made me think:
why haven't we ever seen/heard an interview with their original bass player Mark Stone?
i for one would love to hear his take on the guys from the pre-VH days.
I wonder why The Inside hasn't dug him up yet.
maybe he's dead.

I agree, this is a story that the INSIDE should seek, though I don't know that they haven't. Frankly, I think there's a million stories that could be written about VH that could make the INSIDE alot thicker with quality information. Anyway, I was very surprised to see Mark Stone's name even mentioned at the official site.

glen i'm with ya man. the Inside did a greta job with their first club days issue where they interviewed VH's old buddy named "cartoon"
but where's Ted, Don Landee, Pete Angelus, Ruddy Leiren?
maybe they've tried and got rejected. i dunno.

Come on really, who cares. The guy was the bassist in the band when they were a cover band. The fact that the guy hasn't made the "news" goes to show that he knows his insignificance with the band and has moved on long ago with his life.

All I can think to add is he was with the band during the Mammoth years - they weren't even Van Halen yet.
From 1967 Eddie/Alex had drifted through cover bands. When they made their first band of their own in 1972, Genesis, who later became Mammoth (which originally had Eddie on lead vocals!) Mark Stone was there. Very quickly Dave joined on vocals. When the band figured out things "weren't working" with Stone they auditioned Mike and put him in the band instead. They never said to Stone "you're out" until they had a replacement lined up.
He lives in Pasadena, or did last I heard.
Oh and he never wrote any songs - the band was almost all covers at that point though.

Cool. A nine year old thread necro-posted and brought back to life by a spam-bot, with a history lesson as well. Gotta love the internet.

Rover, I hear you but I do listen to a few on the list fairly often: Bad Co, Billy and Soundgarden being the most prominent. I also love Joy Division/New Order altho some of my friends thought they...
