No 4th singer, please...........
If the boys do get a 4th singer, please call it something other than VH. I dont want to hear this shit about a "soulmate", and "playing the tuba if this fails', etc.

Rock Star was heavily inspired by Judas Priest who lost their real singer (Halford) and hired a tribute band singer (Tim Owens) to replace him.
New Priest sucks incidentally.Delusions of eloquence

Supposing this happened, and supposing the singer was decent, and supposing the music didn't suck (that's supposing a LOT!), it could have one advantage. If people didn't know what the new singer sounded like or how he wrote, they might pick the album up out of morbid curiosity.
Of course, we both know what would happen - the rest of the movie plot. The new guy would find out that Eddie would do all the songwriting and expect him to just sing what was handed to him."Just once I'd like to do the right thing and not get punished for it."

I am sure I would buy it out of morbid curiosity. It just wouldnt be my choice for a course of action for our favorite band.

I bought VH3 out of 'morbid curiosity' and it turned out to be a 'morbid decision'!
Decent concept for a movie, but I'd like to regard the legacy of Van Halen as one that doesn't lend itself to recruiting fans to sing for them. VH doesn't need to become a kareokee (sp) band on top of all the ridicule they've been absorbing. What would a fan singing for them do that would separate him / her from any other VH singer? It'd be like watching another VH tribute band, IMO. Watching some guy trying to do the DLR high kick just makes me cringe...
Not saying Judas Priest is ridiculous for doing that, but personally, VH is too big a band to do something like rely on a fan to be a frontman. VH has 2 perfectly good choices to lead them if they choose to do so."Once the final BAN has been completed I will ban myself." -OLO, March 21, 2002

Geez, why don't we make the band a complete joke once and for all and hire Marky Mark Wahlberg and his arsonist brother to sing.
They could call it "Old Kids On The Chopping Block"Eat Us And Smile
Welcome back, Van HALEN!!!!
...It's the BAND and Dave is really the cat that can front VH. He sang his ASS off and was really cool. No cheese here guys, this is filet Mignon! - Steve Lukather's comment after witnessing a Van HALEN 2007 rehearsal

this is just a concept thread.....i heard about the story of a movie called in australia as "rockstar". the fictional band lose their lead singer and get an unknown singer who was also a fan of the band. why can not this happen with the mighty van halen??????
firstly, to say the least i was very eager for the lads to get back together. the thought of a david lee roth lead van halen, would make any fan who was introduced to the band with that line up, very happy. but it ain't going to happen..........and even if it did, would you want to see a band that were forced to play together for what ever reasons. it would appear that they won't be playing live together because the like each other. i know it would be great to heard the music again, and without a doubt i would go, but what was great about van halen was their chemistry (albeit drug fueled). ed van halen is not going to be able to hide behind liquor so he can deal with dave live this time round.
anyway, why not advertise for a singer on the net. think about it......they get a fan of all eras who would sing anything van halen, if he is a fan, no problems. no lawyers problems. get a cool person...most van halen fans are cool. get someone who is just into the music.
and bingo, new lead singer. i know we all want dave, or sammy for that matter. but it is just not going to happen.
any thoughts?

I thought Donnie Wahlberg did one hell of a job on "Band of Brothers", the recent miniseries on HBO. Anybody see it?"Tardy? I don't feel tardy!"

Deep Purple found a great unknown singer named David Coverdale and were successful.
I have no problem with an unknown singer singing for VH on the next album. I don't think it matters if he is a huge fan of the band of not.
I can think of one guy who is a great singer Matti Alfonzetti! I found out about him from Melodicrock, he would be incredible with VH! Right Now you're reading my post!
I can't stand rap....people who can't sing do rap....you can sing rebellion as well as talk it....Hitler would have been in a rap band...

If they got a 4th singer he'd be one of those losers that looks like he just walked out of a shopping mall circa 1988. They need Gary back - simple as that. Gary was an excellent choice and he liked singing "romeo delight" so he should be singer #4 or for that matter, choice #1.

I'll resist the temptation to go off on the cheezeball for a moment.... Deep Purple isn't exactly a name to be quoting in this thread, for they have allowed themselves to become a complete fucking joke. Hiring Coverversion after Ian Gillan left the band may have been acceptable at the time, but the minute Ritchie Blackmore also quit, the band was over. How the fuck can you call it the same name with neither the original singer OR the original guitarist? I don't care how talented Ian Paice and Roger Glover are, the rhythm section only owns the band if your name is Rush. Or Primus. Possibly the Who. But not Purple.
Covercheese was right to finally retire the name after Bolin's death,(with the remaining members becoming Whitesnake 1.0) but it should have happenned years before that. As for anything that happenned under the Deep Purple name after 1987, how entirely pathetic. Just as Dave & Eddie are to Van HALEN, so are Ian Gillan & Ritchie Blackmore to Deep Purple. Unless both are involved, they should call it something else.

Did you sleep through 1998?? They failed with a third singer, as all bands who try have. The only thing that could happen with a 4th, is that they become a JOKE like the band who was last Deep Purple from 1984-1987. Or the recently (again) disbanded Black Sabbath. (Please dear God I hope Iommi learned his lesson and doesn't release any more shitty solo albums under the Sabbath name)
I can think of one guy who is a great singer Matti Alfonzetti! I found out about him from Melodicrock, he would be incredible with VH!
If the guy is so incredible, shouldn't he join a band which has a chance of actually selling records??Eat Us And Smile
