put out any new music. Are they still eligible for the Hall of Fame?
To be eligible for the HOF you must make music for 25 years. Correct?
If VH does not put out anymore new music their status would be 1978-1998, 20 years.

Not true. THE BEATLES were inducted in 1988, for instance, and they hadn't made any new music for 18 years. ELVIS was inducted earlier than that, and he hasn't been up to too much since 1977. Same with Zeppelin, Buffalo Springfield, The Yardbirds. I don't know if Rod Stewart's been inducted yet, but I would make the argument that he hasn't really made any REAL music since maybe 1977.

To be eligible for the Hall Of Fame, your first record has to be at least 25 years old. The length of the recording career doesn't matter as long as your impact on music is great enough.
The Beatles, for example only had a recording career of 7 years. Some hall of fame artists, like Buddy Holly, weren't even around half that long. And while Elvis technically had a 22 year recording career, let's face it. It wasn't the movie soundtracks or the Vegas act that got him into the HOF, it was the rock n roll he recorded from 1955 at Sun Records until he was drafted in 1958.
Just like Van HALEN will be inducted for their groundbreaking achievements in the years 1978-1984 and not for selling out to the trendies as Van Hagar.Eat Us And Smile
Welcome back, Van HALEN!!!!
...It's the BAND and Dave is really the cat that can front VH. He sang his ASS off and was really cool. No cheese here guys, this is filet Mignon! - Steve Lukather's comment after witnessing a Van HALEN 2007 rehearsal

yep, if they quit now, they can still be inducted. there's a ton of bands in there that aren't doing anything new. Buffalo Springfield, anyone?

Good points everyone! After I posted I started thinking about what I wrote. The Beatles were actually the first group I thought of. And they were only around for 7 or 8 years.
I realized I had posted a silly question.
Sorry. It's MONDAY!
