The 2001 VHML Convention. Be there!

VH's Internet following is huge. VH's Internet following is also very splintered. There's a fan community over on the VHML, the Van Halen Mailing List, that is just as much fun as Links is.

The best thing about the VHML is the convention they have every summer--the kind of convention that we have tossed around the idea of organizing for Forums, where we'd all get to meet each other in person. It's called the VHML "Con," and it's spectacular!

This year the VHML is extending the invitation for their convention to us!

If you go, you'll get to see the massive and diverse VH memorabilia collections that members bring, and participate in the CON Jam, which is an all-VH jam session which you can play in whether you are an Eddie clone or a three-chord wonder.

I happen to be on the 2001 Con Planning Committee. This is the message they're sending to all the VH mailing lists, and that they asked me to show you guys:

It's that time of year again!! PARTY, PARTY, PARTY!!!

It's time for the Van Halen Mailing List to decide where to hold our annual convention!!! The 2001 CON committee will be taking nominations for potential cities and we NEED YOUR INPUT!!! However, in order to vote, you MUST be subscribed to the VHML. That's why we, the 2001 VHML Convention Committee and the VHML, would like to extend an offer to all fans on all of the current Van Halen-related mailing lists to join the VHML and be a part of our festivities. Remember, guys...if you decide you want to vote on the city that it's going to take place in, you need to be subscribed to the mailing list. However, you can set your subscriber status to "no mail" so you don't get a flooded in-box. You just have to be a member of the list.

If anyone here shows any interest, I'll post the voting page so you can put in your vote for the city you want the CON to be held.

Man, you Ohioans missed out. The VHML just had a Winterfest (which is like the cold-weather counterpart to the CON) in Cleveland. The CON itself is likely to be in a major city, but where is anyone's guess. I'm sort of partial to San Francisco since I think I'm going to move there this summer.
