Music industry insiders say long time Van Halen bassist/backup singer/co-writer Michael Anthony has exited the group.

While it is unclear at this time as to why Anthony is leaving, an associate of the band who wishes to remain anonymous said, "the tension between those three guys [the three members of Van Halen] was unreal. Mike [Anthony] just wanted to make music and play for the fans, but all in the internal BS just wouldn't let that happen. I believe he just got fed up."

There is widespread industry speculation that Anthony's management has be in touch with former Van Halen vocalist David Lee Roth and that an album and tour featuring the two Van Halen expatriates will happen summer 2001.

There has been no official comment from any party at the time of this writing.
