I copied this from another site. Dave may be certain of a reunion (HOF induction kinda assures that, though), but he ain't givin' any sign of it being anything BUT nostalgia.

And when he refers to something about 'sissy music', I think it's safe to assume that the band won't be too happy with him now. The shit-slinging, this time, starts with Dave.

    8/30/01
94.1 KZZR: I have to ask the gratuitous Van Halen question.

DLR: I think it's going to be inevitable that there would be a reunion at some time, you know, as free hearted and wandering and libertine as I might be, I think the Van Halens will have to succumb to some very, very strong overly-super powers--namely the wives and kids. Sooner or later one of those kids is going to turn and go, "What did you do in the war, Daddy?"

94.1 KZZR: [laughter] That's for sure...

DLR: [inaudible first words] I'm gonna just sit and go, "Your daddy used to be a very famous man".

94.1 KZZR: Oh, oh, oh, there you go!

DLR: Yeah, yeah, by the time they get to the solo of "A Hard Day's Night", Diamond Dave'll show up and save the day.

94.1 KZZR: Like a superhero! "Yeah, what you'd do for a living?" "I backed-up David Lee Roth is what I did for a living!"

DLR: No, I think that the Van Halens [are] a constant part of, you know, it's... how do you call it? It's the sum total is much greater than the parts. Four guys who makes the noise of millions, speak the attitudes of the fury and the "screw you" and "I love you" and everything in between. Not just for nations, but generations. So, hey, it is inevitable; the greater forces of whatever.

94.1 KZZR: So it'll pull it all together. So you guys are getting along well enough that you think you can see that happening?

    DLR: [interrupting] Hell no!

    94.1 KZZR: [laughter] That's what I expected!

DLR: [inaudible smug sarcasm using constructed dialog--contains audible phrase "a bunch of sissy's music"]

94.1 KZZR: The truth is they're going to have to sell some records eventually to pay the bills, man, and they're going to have to get over it.

DLR: [inaudible few words] ...you know, entire nations are going to rage... this is starting to verge on biblical. You know, this kind of music... it's music! It's lifestyle. When I get up onstage, what I play is your youth, man. And I don't care if that's last summer or 70 summers ago. That's priceless. You know, you can put a number on a record but when you get to the point where somebody like myself or Eric Clapton, or the guys in the Stones are, what we're selling you is yesterday and that's f'ing priceless. It is to me a supposing that, you know, being made to feel young and impulsive from 300 meters in a dead run is... I can't put a price on that. That's why I always go to see, you know, whether somebody new, the Limp Bizkits, or still the Elton Johns, on the classic. Whether it's Tina Turner and the classic or whether it's the chick in the middle in the Destiny's Child. It makes me feel young and impulsive, and, [sound of hand slapping down], I'm going to admit it, now!!

Looks to me like Dave HAPPILY admits to living in the past, and wanting to do nothing BUT that with VH. Looks like a big NO-GO for the reunion with Dave, considering Ed's constant claims of wanting to continue to move forward and NOT be a nostalgia act.

For those of you who really MEANT that it was "Dave-or-the-grave" for them, it looks like strike 3. (save for a possible mini-performance at the HOF, if/when they actually get in)

For those of us hoping to see Sammy back, I think the odds went up a little bit for it.

For those who want singer #4, see above Sammy comment.

Given, it's only ONE interview, but if Dave is being honest (which his fans swear that he always is), I think that reunion torch, wherever it is, isn't gonna catch the VH zippo.
    Don't bark at me...I didn't name ya.

I don't draw a connection at all between this interview and any enhanced possibility of Sammy coming back to Van Halen (God forbid). Too much on the line to fret about some comments made to some DJ about past bullshit. Plus, the DJ's drag this type of shit out of people anyway. What, do they expect Dave to like Vans' Hagar and Daniels?

Eddie and co. may think Dave is an asshole for some of the things he says, but they also think that Sammy conspired to fuck them out of money.

Yep. "fuckin' hate him" and "stabbed them in the back" are two phrases I've heard recently (since Dave announced his tour) from the brothers to desrcribe Sammy. I think this Eddie and Sammy were/are great friends thing is blown way out of propoartion. Eddie only said such things when Sammy was *IN* Van Halen...he hasn't had a single nice word to say about Sammy since he left, and in that time he's worked with Dave twice.

As for the interview, it's not really suprising is it. Dave has played it the VH silence way for 18 months and nothing has happened....we all knew these kind of comments were coming if the VH reunion didn't happen. Eddie is sitting at home doing nothing, Dave really has nothing to lose by pointing it out.

As for the inevitable "Eddie doesn't want to do nostalgia" comments. Well first of all he has very little choice, and secondly he didn't seem to mind playing mostly 15-20 year old songs with Cherone in the band. Is it only nostalgia iof you do it with the person who sang them originally (and best)?

Whatever VH does live they are going to mainly tour with songs that are by that stage old.

Also, I hope there's a DJ who has heard the "Dave asked for 50%" rumours and asks that of Dave next time he's on the radio.

The coolest thing about Dave's lyrics is that he's always so vague about what he's saying. And often, that's also what's cool about his interview style. But for me, at this present time, it's wearing thin. I'm tired of the asides and the vague answers.

I don't expect the truth or the whole story from these guys, but it sure would be a nice change of pace.

Obviously. It would be interesting to hear his reaction if someone catches him with it by surprise though.

Eddie said Dave lives in a different reality (or something like that). Eddie doesn't live in the same reality as any of us either - that's my only expanation. I don't think VH owes us anything but it would be a nice gesture if they admitted they aren't actually doing anything and have no plans to.

I wonder how many people would still be posting regularly to the message boards if VH had said "we aren't doing anything until at least 2002" when Cherone left in November 1999?

As usual, I think this sheds the lihgt on nothing.

and I used to hate the word Nostalgia with VH, but as much as everyone here is going to hate me saying this, the lack of VH doing anything is quickly sending them into a nostalgia era... whether they like it or not.

well, if dave gets back in, then eddie's gonna want to make new music, and i think that dave's okay with that. i think he just really wants back in. remember the 3 new songs that "knock your socks off" or whatever. it's obvious that they'll be playing old tunes if/when they tour again, but i bet every single person here wants to hear the new stuff too. i think that they can still move forward. dave's dong a nostalgia tour anyway, as we speak.

I don't mind using the nostalgia word, as long as they continue to record new material. Eddie will do nothing less. You will never see VH playing the state fucking fair at midday, that is for sure. If wanting to hear classic VH live in concert makes me a nostalgist, then so be it.

    Nostalgistically speaking, that is [img]smilies/biggrin.gif[/img]

Look at the Stones - they always record a new CD before any new tour, even though by now most people want to hear the classics live over any new stuff live. But when you are a band with such a huge, varied catalog, there are only so many songs you can squeeze into a two hour show, snd most of them end up being the crowd pleasers (the classics).
