Here's a link to that story.
    http://www.vh1.com/thewire/content/news/1446603.jhtml

Here's the scoop if you don't want to read all the crap. At Michael Jackson's 30th Anniversary celebration concerts, he is having many acts perform his songs. Unfortunately, he's got Slash doing 'Beat It'.

What a joke. Eddie should have been there unless he declined to perform.

I'm sure that EVH was given right of first refusal to make the appearace, and probably declined, for what reason, who knows.

Probably take too much time away from his golf game.

Yes, he made a cameo during one of MJ's concerts down in Dallas back in '83 I think. It's on the Warner Brothers That's all folks

Personally, I don't think it's a big deal. Slash has cited Eddie as one of his main influences, so there's no doubt Slash will have respect for the solo and probably pull it off pretty well. And I'd much rather see Eddie getting Van Halen going again than getting on stage with the King of All Child Molesters.

EVH was an influence on how Slash plays the guitar? WOW! Pardon my ignorance, but, I do not see the connection since Slash and Guns and Roses are an entire different rock--genre! Someone please help me understand!

It was in an old issue of Guitar World. They have a segment every month called "60 Minutes with..." and then they have an artist pick their favorite songs, and one of Slash's choices was Eruption/You Really Got Me and he talks about how Eddie was influence, you can especially hear it in that outro solo he plays on "Paradise City" I guess Eddie complimented him on it and everything. Pretty cool stuff and it shows how far-reaching Eddie's influence really is.

Just a little more info on the Edward/Slash connection. I recall reading an article from a well known guitar magazine a few years back in which Edward and Slash are on the front cover together. It was during the Balance era as Edward was sporting his short hair cut and I think the facial hair. The article was very cool. Apparently the interview was held at 5150. Slash indeed cited Edward as a big influence and mentioned what a cool and down to earth guy edward was. They both talked about the ups and downs of the music business. The interview also mentioned that they had been "jamming" at 5150. I'm sure anyone interested in finding the article could do so on this website. Anyway, its a worthwhile read. Peace....Chain

Speaking of Slash, I saw Slash's Snake Pit open for AC/DC last September. Slash's band is truly the "pits".
