I've heard various things about some bad Roth appearances on late-night shows. Can someone explain what was so horrible about some of them...especially the Leno one? Thanks!

The only two I've seen are the Letterman one where he did Tell The Truth and was interviewed and when he did California Girls on Leno aroung the time he was in Vegas. He was funny in the interview with Letterman and I recall him doing a cool version of Tell The Truth. I really don't recall the Leno one, but I've heard he was pretty bad.

never saw the one w/leno, but i did see the one w/letterman, he was wearing the vest thing w/all the polar bears on it. i remember him talking about their "chick grid"...that is, their way of pointing out chicks to the roadies to get them backstage.

It was so bad that Eddie even commented on it!
He told an interviewer at the time that when he saw the Leno performance he felt so sad for Dave that he cried.

Hey, guys, I'm downloading it off the DLR Army. I do remember downloading the Letterman one once and, yes Glenn, he sounded awesome on "Tell the Truth." I'll return here with a review of the Leno clip later.

I remember looking so forward to the Leno show and after seeing it being so embarrased. I really felt bad for Dave......He made an ass of himself that night. I was saying....."Oh no!,Dave!,Lay off the drugs man!" I think he was pretty messed up that show. Could of just been an "off" night.......I've never seen the Letterman show except the 1985 one......So he did Letterman in 1991??

It was UGLY simply UGLY. Dave seamed out of sorts, I dont know if he was high or drunk but he was off his game. Robbin Williams was the first guest so when Dave came out Robin was sitting on the couch, Jay asked some questions about the show and it was like Dave was trying way to hard to be funny or something. The more Dave said the worse it got. Robin Williams finally started in and procceded to make Dave look like a complete babbling idiot. It was like a really bad car crash, everyone new Dave was being made a ass of except Dave. I compare it to the Farrah Fawcett interview Letterman did, I was like come on Dave pull out of it man. It was UGLY!!!

    Oh...God, that was pretty sad
Roth looked so innocent...It made things looks worse. He sang the melody okay, but that was some of the worst improvising of notes that I've ever seen him use in a song. He kept singing off. Also, Roth should have never even tried to sing the "wish they all could be California girls" part, because it sounded so horrible. His set was pretty interesting, with the girls and all...so I hope people got distracted by that. I really think Dave should've sang something jazzy and in his range for Leno. His voice wasn't in horrible shape at the time. All I can say is, I can't wait until VH is there with him again. He'll prove them all wrong now. He's really improved since then in my opinion. His voice is definately at least back to the way it was in 1991...which is good.

I just checked out the interview of that 1995 Leno appearance. Actually, that seemed pretty close to several other interviews I've seen with Dave. I didn't think it was so bad, just typical Dave.

Hmm...I don't know about that badass attitude anymore. I have watched old VH concerts with him and he wouldn't smile too much. He mostly tried to look tough, yeah, that's exactly what he did. Now, like the Leno performance, Dave is all smiles throughout a concert. He seems to be having a blast. I think it's cooler to see a guy having a good time. That's the saddest thing about the Leno performance, he was so happy. Nobody boo-ed him. Actually, he got cheers, but everyone knew he looked stupid. The short hair look was cool. He looked cleaned up and normal. The only thing that was wrong with the performance was Roth couldn't sing the song at all. He singing notes that didn't go with the song...it wasn't pretty.

When the Fuck did SRV get booed during an astro game. I live near H town and have never heard anything so blasphemy. That's like booing santa claus or a cure for cancer. Now I could see if he was playing in philly or something but c'mon.
