Check this out guys, I thought this was interesting.....
Jeb: You have compared bringing Steve Augeri into the band with what Van Halen did. Actually not doing what Van Halen did when Sammy Hagar took over for David Lee Roth. Could you expand on that a little bit?
Neal: When Van Halen got Sammy Hagar I was very familiar with Sammy. We go back quite a ways and we actually recorded HSAS. I thought he was a great choice. I almost felt like I was part of the reason that it happened. Ed (Van Halen) and I used to hang out a lot. I remember one concert in particular when we played in San Francisco; Ed came with me in my car. I drove him back to his hotel in the city. We had just finished the HSAS record and I was playing it to him in his room. He kept on stopping it and going back and listening to bits and pieces over again. I could tell he was impressed. He liked Sammy’s vocals and he liked the whole record. I think that stuck in his head. He was explaining to me how him and David were not getting along. He was very unhappy at the time. I had no idea that they were going to look for a new singer but a few months later it all came down! What Van Halen did was just move on and get another great singer in Sammy. They just played all the new material and didn’t rely so much on the older material.

Pretty interesting. As for HSAS, I've never listened to it. Neal Schon is a great guitarist and I like Sammy's voice so maybe I'll make a small investment and get me this album.

IMO, Through The Fire was a better album than 5150. Was hard as hell to find on CD in the late 80s/early 90s, too.
But definitely pick up!LIGHT 'EM UP!! <br />Smoke 'em if you got 'em!<br /><br /><a href="http://vhstrungout.com" target="_blank">StrungOut</a> Administrator<br /><a href="http://ClassicVanHalen.com" target="_blank">ClassicVH</a> / <a href="http://diamonddavidleeroth.com" target="_blank">Diamond Dave</a> Moderator

Yup, you can't go wrong with HSAS. If Van Halen can't get their posteriors in order and snatch Sammy back up, I really hope he does do some more work with Neal Schon soon in a similar manner.

HSAS is a great cd, don't know if it's better than 5150 but it's still great. I think the whole cd is live-no overdubs. I've got bootlegs of the whole concert and some of the songs that didn't make the cd are the best ones. Since you Came and tough enough are totally kick ass.

HSAS is awesome! I always wondered if Eddie heard that album before he chose Sammy as the new lead singer for VH after Roth. My favorite song is Missing You.
I love Tough Enough, Since You Came is great too, I think I like it better than The Love from Red Voodoo, which is very simular, Neal Schon actually get's co writing credit for The Love in Red Voodoo. Right Now you're reading my post!

HSAS is great, but, IMO, it does not compare to 5150 or any other Hagarian/VH CD!

I agree Marky, the Van Hagar albums are better than HSAS.
