I emailed the Starlight and got this back. Personally I think they are engaged in damage control.

To whom it may concern. Please understand that no acts have been booked for
Starlight Amphitheater at this time. Not only is Van Halen NOT touring (to
our best knowledge), we are not in contact with, or under any negotiation
with Van Halen tour management. As with all other Amphitheaters, we would
not anticipate confirming any engagements until sometime in early 2001,
after scheduling and routing details have been addressed by the various
management organizations.

We apologize for any misrepresentations that may have been made or implied
on our behalf. Our advertising media is clear and does NOT make any mention
of booked acts and only identifies acts that we KNOW are touring, which DOES
NOT include Van Halen .

Please assist us in STOPPING this rumor.

Total Damage Control. They stated at another board that their radio add only says "bands LIKE Van Halen will be appearing" Insinuating that what? Bands that sound like Van Halen will be playing? You gotta be kidding me. How dumb do they think people are.

Thanks for the post Jonathan. I've had my doubts about the whole thing from the get go. I have already talked about this with some friends of mine on the links. But who knows for sure. Van Halen will kick some ass when the time comes. THAT is for sure. Oh well, only time will tell. Out.

VH Management got to Starlight pretty damn quick to shut them up and pass the word to their employees TO KEEP THEIR TRAPS SHUT!

What if it's all an elaborate hoax??

Let's assume for a minute that Van Halen was never booked to play there. In that case, the radio ad that says "bands like Van Halen" is false advertising, but I bet that line wouldn't have found its way into a radio commercial script unless someone along the line was some kind of big VH fan, right? And if they're a big VH fan, then they probably already know what thousands of rabid VH fans are thinking when they hear this radio ad.

To the VH fans that they KNOW are listening, the ad just serves to cement the "Starlight Amphitheater" in our minds. This could mean that some advertising exec is using VH's name JUST TO STIR UP BUZZ, therefore generating some cheap publicity for the new venue they're building.

Unfortunately, this guy underestimated just how fast word-of-mouth travels among VH's Internet following, and now what he thought was smart promotion is escalating into some kind of LEGAL DISASTER! They're not just generating interest in themselves...the Starlight Ampitheater is generating a frenzy of talk about Van Halen!

Knowing they're about to get into serious trouble due to loose chatter from naive operators, the Starlight's head honchos are trying to repair the damage done by pretending their DELIBERATE use of "Van Halen" in said radio ads was a mere COINCIDENCE. But, as we speak, they're starting to realize that their backtracking is FUTILE!! The shit has already hit the fan and the news is traveling fast. The only way to reedeem themselves now, they realize, is to get VH to play for REAL. Only this time, in order to save their asses from the long arm of the law, they have to keep it a SECRET. Hence, the transparent tagline: "Please assist us in STOPPING this rumor."

I hope thats not the case. Its not their fault that there are all kinds of sercrecy issues surrounding this. It seems to me that this venue was not told about the secrecy issues with VH at the moment.

I do think that it's odd that this information breaks and less than 24 hours later after showing up on the band's official message board (via a Army - Links - PD chain of events) that suddenly stories change.

SO, either way, you can bet Brad passed word of the fiasco on down the line to the Powers That Be.

Im with Hain on this, I DO NOT CARE what this arena is now saying or what Brad says.

If VH wasnt doing a damm thing they would have said something by now. Remember how pissed of Ed and Al were in that MTV interview about the 96 debacle, there is now way in hell they would keep quiet about any of this if it were not true.

I for one think the arena person did not relise this was some big secrete and spoke of what they knew. After it broke all over the web VH managment got on the horn and chewed some ass.

The Starlight e-mail to Grant was probally the work of VH managment, Im guessing they called the Starlight and said here send this guy a e-mail saying you spoke out to soon or it was a mistake! Sorry ot buying it
