Eddie would have been perfect for the Spiderman Cover! Aerosmith's version is lacking in the guitars- Perry isn't that type of player. I think Ed would have been perfect for that! The song "Respect the Wind" was to me, the best VH song ever -a great sound. I know it is very popular to bash Ed on these web sites lately, but lets remember Ed is probably one of the most original guitar players of his time. He may be trying to protect his integrity as much as anything else these days, after all he deserves it he worked very hard for it. I would for one really enjoy an instrumental release from Ed and co. it could be innovative and explore a lot of new territory - none of the singers voices have been a good match for the sound of his guitars-anyway- the best have always been instrumentals!

What I mean by the vocals never fitting in with the music is that my favorite songs(and the most riveting artistically)have been the instrumentals.
Eds guitar playing is incredible and I dont really feel that the voices on the Van Halen albums really come close to capturing that feel, -I know all the contrast crap and words like that come to mind- but there is a certain sonic quality to Eddies solos that is enough and vocals just ruin it for me. Of course there are a few songs where the vocals come close to matching the intensity of the guitar work such as I'm on Fire and Dreams, but Eruption, Cathedral, Spanish Fly, Respect the Wind etc. are quinessential Van Halen. The sounds that made us listen.

This is a good topic for the Opinions forum, so I'm going to send it there now.

I don't even know what Spider-Man song you're referring to, so I can't comment on that. But personally, I find Respect the Wind to be a very longwinded song. It's like it would be great if it was 2 minutes long, but it just goes around and around in circles with nowhere to land. Eventually the pilot has to know when to put the landing gear down and get that baby earth bound.
