It seems like many times when there's so much anticipation for something, that when it's finally released, many people are disappointed.
"Star Wars: Episode I" comes to mind. I actually thought the movie was pretty good (if you can ignore Jar-Jar Binks), but there was no way that it could've lived up to everyone's expectations.
I'm very confident that the new CD will be great, but I'm sure that there will be people who will say "THIS is what we waited so long for?!?"
Maybe VH is keeping quiet now because they don't want to over-hype the upcoming release?
I don't know, it's just an idea I had.
(I'm really running out of VH-related things to talk about.)

well, YES
I really didn't know what to expect from VH3, I personally was blown away by it. (Just My Opinion)
We know what eddie and the boys are capable of, let's just hope they aren't working "too hard" to achieve that.

Achievements:
I absolutely think it will live up to my expectations, because, though my expectations are high, they are also pretty vague. I have no clue what direction they're going in. Both Van Halen and Dave have been on a lot of different paths in the previous 15 years, and if they get back on the road together, who knows which side of that road they'll be on. They all have so many experiences (musical and life) to draw from they could go in a million different directions (possibly in the same album or even the same song).
Whichever way they go, I'm dying to hear it and I'm confident I won't be disappointed.

If I'm disappointed-it's my fault for expecting more/better music
I hope there's an element of surprise

If DLR is back in VH then we are gauranteed a killer album, he knows how to get the best out of Eddie, and he himself is also a very creative influence.
The band know how important this album is, they won't fuck it up.
If its as good as DLR Band I myself will be a very happy camper.

One more reason for the delay of any announcements may be an attempt to reshape a middle-aged band. Let's face facts here. Most VH fans are somewhere between their late 20's to early 40's, about a 10 year spread. To get the maximum bang for their buck not only will the music have to be decent( unlike 3 and to some degree Balance) but their image will have to be refreshed to some degree. Take the Stones as an example, they can still sell tickets, but their new music blows. They were at the top of their game in the late 80's but never recovered. I pause to compare Fleetwood Mac to VH but, there was a screwed up band trying to get by with replacement singers and guitarists but the Magic never returned until stevie & Buckingham did(If they can get over, fuckin' eachothers wives & girlfriends, you'd think VH's problems look small) The whole point is The creation of the album is the 1st step, the hype is the 2nd. I think if the album is good, Ed is healthy & they get some good management...it will be great. These guys need to go out with a bang, not turn in to a Las Vegas act(sorry Dave!).

Good analogy with Star Wars, Bassman. I too had high expectations. I enjoyed the movie (except too for Jar Jar) but it just didn't capture the same magic as the first one. Now I'm expecting a follow-up to 1984 (probably my favorite VH album) and I don't think there is any way it can fulfill my expectations. I hope so though!

LOL!! THAT line is a keeper!
**Disclaimer: I liked most of VH3 and have never bashed Gary. Gen-X's line was funny, though!

However the album turns out there will be people who think it's their greatest, and people who think it's a load of crap from a greedy washed up band relying on nostalgia to make a quick buck.
I'm with Glenn I think....kinda...I have no idea what I'm even gonna expect until at the band at least speaks.

the worst thing we could do is expect it to be the GREATEST RECORD EVER MADE IN THE HISTORY OF MUSIC AS WE KNOW IT.
as long as ya don't think that way and just are excited about hearing dave's voice over Ed Al & mike's playing then all will be cool.

Yet another great post, man. You nailed it for me.

Hope and Pray Bassman, I couldn't wait till Page/Plant did a new CD,after I herd it I couldn't wait to get it out of my CD player. Major league disappointment. I'm a huge Zep fan. Hope the same doesn't happen with VH if infact Roth is back.
