Two off tunes on that cd "HINA" & "PERFECT TIMING". Rockin' guitars & great crankin' tunes to remember back in the day gone by. I was still a "full cd" guy back then...gave all the tunes a listen to, to get 'em into my mind and let 'em swim around so to speak...did the same w/5150, EEAS, OU812. These were "album" guys for sure back then. Yea, there were some "dogs", but ya' had to love even the dogs....we were gettin' music thrown at us !!!! with passion!!!! what a good time to re-live. Always liked "Damn Good" on the slow down....that---is a "damn good" song... with commentary about days gone by. sigh...

I've always said that Skyscraper was very underrated and Dave's best solo effort IMO.

Last time I listened to it was in my Pop's basement(my bedroom)late '89. CCR is on now... I'll give it a spin now. The tunes you mentioned bring back fond times. I am an "album" man. Always have been...Bob Dylan- BOTT - I know...But my last disc in was "Zero". It rocks.

I think it is Hina, but to me, it has a "Little Guitars" feel to it in some small way. Does anyone else hear this?

'spose you could say it has a bit of a Little Guitar's vibe. I think it's more "airy" than Little Guitars, though.

Good album, a little inconsistant, probably (to an extent) the most metaphysical of anything Dave has done.

Skyscraper is my least favorite Dave solo album, but it's still good and I've always loved HINA!

'Skyscraper' and 'Hina' are my favorites off that album, When it came out, I used to play it all the time. Loved hearing the songs live as well. It was one of my favorite DLR-solo tours.

    Love Skyscraper.

Proves to me how much Roth relies on having a unique quitarist/writer to work with.

    Vai/Roth was always great.

I'll take a Vai/Sheehan/Roth reunion if EVH doesn't want to work with Dave.

Skyscraper is way underrated. It's my favorite DLR solo effort. Except for "Stand Up" that is a killer album. "Damn Good", "Knucklebones", Bottom Line" and "Skyscraper" all rock. And the guitar solo in "Hot Dog And A Shake" is stellar! I love the way that EEAS band sounded and the direction that they took. It would have been great to hear the "rougher" demos that Billy Sheehan has mentioned though. Shouldn't this be in the songs forum?

    Give me a minute!!!!

Skyscraper is a good album, but the sound isn't very good. And I think, in the short term, losing the EEAS Band was the best thing to happen to Dave.

A Little Ain't Enough contains by far the strongest group of songs Dave's done solo, and some of his best lyrics. It also benefitted from having a great producer; it's a great album sonically as well.

Say what you want about Ted Templeman being great, but listen to 1984 and then listen to Eat Em and Smile. It's a huge turn for the worse sonically, though obviously that's not all on Ted's shoulders.

Anyways, off to the Albums forum for this topic guys.
