"79th And Sunset" Dave Roth-Guitar, Vocal

For those that have never heard it...from a Jim Ladd interview, loooong ago. This and "Tin Cup Chalice" are two of my favorite cover tunes performed by Dave, ever.

Audio only, as it's from a radio show.

David Lee Roth "79th And Sunset" (1:58)
"The reasonable man adapts himself to the world; the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore, all progress depends on the unreasonable man."

Is there any recorded official version of Dave singing, Tin Cup?

When I first heard Dave sing it in an interview I had no idea it was a cover. All I knew was that it was a beautiful song and it really fit Dave's voice.

Some of my favorite stuff by Dave is the mellower songs, I think he is a hard rock singer by accident, not by choice.

Black Sand, Tin Cup Chalice, Could This Be Magic?, Damn Good, intro to Ice Cream Man, I'm sure there are others, but I think he shines the most on those types of songs.

Have always wondered what an acoustic album of just him and Ed would sound like.

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

    Yeah!

I've been listening to a lot of their live stuff lately. Wish I was old enough to catch them back then. One of my favorite bands.

So I was wondering if vhlinks had a discussion about 79th & Sunset. When you listen to it, other than the lyrics, you would never know it was the Humble Pie song. Is the guitar part of this stolen from somewhere else? It is very catchy. Had VH put this on an album with different lyrics it would still be on the radio today.
    Right here I say....

I loved the acoustic covers he did on that Radio Rodeo Tour in conjunction with the Sam and Dave tour. In addition to "Tin Cup Chalice" he did "When It's Love Time," "Mercy! Mercy! Mercy!," and "Smack Dab in the Middle." Some of those (and some of the other different Bar-B-Que songs) should have been on Diamond Dave, the covers album. Like "Baker Street" and "Shine a Little Bit More" as he called it.

Add "Coconut Grove" to that list.

Also, check out "Fool for Your Stockings" on the BBQ video if you haven't already seen it.
