Here are my reasons based on the last year!!
1. Plain and simple "Eddie does not Want to play anymore"
2. Lawyers- Maximum Golf article earlier this year. Too much hassle to work it out.
3. HEALTH - Maximum Golf again- Eddie is happy being healthy and not making music, needs to kick cancer and nothing else
4. PARENTS- Both Eddie and Al are parents and do not want to deal with being a rock star again
5. Dont care about the FANS- Have no alligence to the fans-2 years and no info-why have a web site anymore message to warner brothers
6. Money- do not need it or care about it!! Not an issue of this
7. Eddie is a musician and not a rock star- musicians make music but don't need to play it for anyone to appreciate it but themselves. Selfish but true
8. AGE- I think this is a factor- to many years on the road takes it's toll, they can still play no doubt about that but tour???
9. Happy- I think from reading everything in the past year Eddie is finally happy with his life, he is sober (or so they say) he has a kid and a wife- somthing to live long for here!
10. Success- what else is there for Eddie and Van Halen to prove? How many platinum albums do you need, is there really anything left to prove other than to do it for the love of the fans and for the money and themselves- all which are answered from above.
Kill me now I know you all will

Yeah, Valerie can bring home the bacon and Eddie will fry it up in the pan. Ed will stay home and play Mr. Mom to Wolfie. I'm trying to picture Ed in an apron with high heels and a pearl necklace.
Nope, can't see it happening. I can see Alex wanting to give it up. That poor guy is in ALOT of pain.

I think there's a couple of things you might be missing--Eddie is undoubtedly happing haven beaten/beating Cancer, and getting to spend time with his family--but he was also happy performing for his fans--I think he's caught between two worlds, hence the long wait--"Do I stay home with my family that I love, or go back on the road playing for the people, doing what I love for the people I love?" it's not an easy decision.
I don't think Eddie is the Grinch some people have made him out to be--some people say I have a unique perspective on this, maybe I do--but given that he just battled with Cancer(one of the most dangerous diseases) and given horror stories of celebrities who barely knew their children and family while they were working, Eddie wants to continue his career, but not grow apart from his family at the same time.
I know a lot of you have been told this too many times, but wait--Eddie will do something, but I can gurantee, this probably hurts him and the others in Van Halen as much as us, it's a decision between a career that lasted a good 1978 to now, plus the club days before 1978, and staying home with the family.
It's not an easy decision, and Eddie isn't a superhuman--to quote Macduff from Shakespeare's Macbeth; "I shall dispute it as a man, but I shall also feel it as a man." Same context--career or family.
Give it time.
~Panama~~"Don't be squirtin' that water at me or I'll @%$# you're girlfriend!"--David Lee Roth~

I agree that Eddie probably doesn't have much motivation to put out more music, but I would like to think that he'd want to go out on top. Maybe after one more album and a tour with either Sammy or Dave, Eddie would feel better about the way he's finishing his career.

I agree, we'll never hear new Halen again. Twice a year, one or two of the band members will make a statement saying they're recording a new CD and will tour soon

More like 10 illogical reasons...
“And what we have at our fingertips is arguably one of the greatest high tenor voices ever – that was in Michael Anthony. In our tiny little corner of the universe, that voice is as identifiable as the high voice in Earth, Wind & Fire, as identifiable as the high voice in the Beach Boys. Van Halen is an indelicate house blend of both – that’s intentionally. So I would always look forward to that reunion.” - David Lee Roth

All of a sudden I'm feeling VH is finished.
Just a gut feeling I have, and I've grown to trust these feelings. Christ, this sucks.

I can think of a couple of counter reasons why Van Halen is not ready to quit (in spite of any obsticals). First, fame and success is deeply rooted in our minds. Not many people want to be known as a "has been." Second, is it ever possible to have too much money? Remember the lyrics to "Right Now." "The more you have the more you want... You have to run to stay even."
"What is understood don't need to be discussed. 'Aint that right Edward?'" Sammy Hagar, Right Here Right Now

We're WAY too fatalistic. In the world of normal people VH is on hiatus, or done, that simple. I do think that if VH was done, they'de tell us, we're just going crazy because most of us are here daily waiting for news, and that can make time stretch a bit

I totally doubt "quit" or "finished" is in the VH vocabulary......maybe "we take too fuckin long to make a record" but not "quit" or "finished:

Playing in a band myself I will say the lure of the stage is a very powerfull thing. And I will always say there are certain songs that I am so sick of playing, but when on the stage, whole new thing. We play maybe once a month and I find it very difficult to be away from my family, and that is nowhere near the scale Eddie is away from his family, I couldn't fathom being away for over a year on the road. But, as I said, the lure of the stage is very powerfull, even moreso to someone who has done it all their life. I would bet Eddie will be out there again in one form or another. But to take a break for his family, you can't fault any man for that!
Life is something that happens when your planning something else.

I did not want to bring this thread out to bring everyone down!! These are just some facts that exist. I think that Eddie is at a point where the money, stage, and fans do not mean much to him. I don't blame him for that, I would choose my family over my career in a heartbeat if I new my health was in Jeopardy or even if I was successful like Eddie was. Remember it is easier for him to walk away, finances if he was smart with his money will NEVER be an issue.. and the time he will spend with his family is worth more to him as he grows older. Time is the one commodity that Eddie and everyone does not have a plethora of and it cannot be bought.
Does anyone really think that Eddie's pride as a musician was hurt by Van Halen III? I don't think he really cared, he made that album for himself and I don't think he cared that he did not go out on top? He made the best record he could, it just was another page in his book and the fans did not like it. I don't think his Pride was hurt at all by the fact it did not get many accolades. Just my opinion..You can try me at home if it feels alright, hear about it later
