Almost no solo's on Not 4 Sale.

Did anyone else notice that there is a lack of guitar solo's on Not 4 Sale??? What the hell?! How can a former Van Halen singer hardly have any guitar solo's on his album?

It drives me nuts when songs don't have solo's, I don't buy rock music from bands that don't have solo's! Sammy's guitar player Vic needs to be replaced! [img]graemlins/irked.gif[/img]

The solo-free songs could be Sammy evolving with the times. Somebody had a good post a while back detailing contemporary rock's lack of solos (a la Disturbed, POD, Puddle of Mud...). He may just be trying to make his music more relevant to younger listeners.

Even though he says he just does his own thing, The Red Rocker is a savvy enough marketer to try something new - just as he's done on all of his post-VH releases.

I wasn't all that impressed with the "Stand Up" version he did on this album. I thought the "Rock Star" version with Zakk Wylde, Jeff Pilson, Jason Bonham, and Jeff Scott Soto blew it out of the water. Zakk is just a far superior player to Vic or Sam.

I didn't even think about the missing solos. I actually love this cd. I think Make It Alright, Not 4 Sale and Halfway To Memphis are great tunes.

Another thing is...his vocals start within the first one or two seconds of each song. No more waiting 30 secs for him to start singing..

With no solos and very few intros, this was an anti-Van Halen album.

If Van Halen were playing the songs on the album, it would be so much better. Those guys can breathe life into any song. No disrespect to the Waboritas but Sammy's best band was Eddie, Alex and Michael.

I didn't notice the lack of solos as much as the high profile of the keyboards on nearly every song.I really like this disc alot -it's his best album since I Never Said Goodbye.

I like the album and think "Stand Up" is a lot better version than in Rock Star. In my opinion the Rock Star version is to clean. Didn't really notice the lack of solo's - makes no difference to me as long as it's a good tune. Halfway to Memphis is a great song, the Zep melody is cool and after hearing The Karma Wheel a few times - excellent stuff.

I think it's cool that Sam continues to put stuff out every year for his fans!
