Last night, I was watching the videos live a thru z, I was hoping to see Van Halen and it comes on. It was Best Of Both Worlds. It was cool. Sammy was acting weird and laying on his back a lot, but it was cool. its was about quarter to 2:00 I think.

The didn't show live DLR era VH because the show was for live MTV performances, not just any live performance, and DLR era VH never played any MTV live events, like the awards shows or new years eve shows or anything like that. That performance of BOBW was from the Live W/out a Net taping and was broadcasted live?? for the 86 MTV Music awards.

Achievements:
That is my favorite part of LWAN, when they sing BOBW. It reminds me of the concert...my seat was to the side of the stage and when they did their "5150 walk" it looked like Eddie was coming right at me! Such great memories

Hey-
I saw BOBW too, only caught the end though. Still, it was REALLY strange flipping through channels and finding VH on the tube. Like seeing a ghost or something.
On a related note, my Digital Cable added "VH1 Classic" two weeks ago, which has become my fave channel since it shows nothing but videos, old stuff from the 80s and even before then, which I think reflects on my age. If some of you can remember the early days of MTV, it feels like a major flashback, all the way down to seeing Elvis Costello and Clash videos.
That said, I caught "Unchained" on Saturday, which makes a double VH whammy for me this past weekend. The added benefit is that the programming on VH1 Classic "loops" every day, so I caught the same block again and finally got the best video and audio recording I have of that sucker.
Pathetic isn't it, to get worked up over two Van Halen videos, but then again, right now, all us hardcore fans have nothing but memories to hold onto unless something ever happens.... Happy New Year everyone!!!

A couple of weeks ago I was channel surfing, and caught it. So, they've at least aired that show twice. It WAS weird.
Just seeing Van Halen on MTV (even if it WAS Sammy ) in this day and age was surreal. I was wondering if they were gonna show the entire performence of the song, with the spray painting of the girls shoes and all that, but they didn't. They edited that whole part out. It was kind of funny when all of a sudden it jumped from right before the long breakdown with the girls shoes, etc. to Sammy going right back into the chorus. Although, if you hadn't seen the LWAN tape you wouldn't have even known the difference!
"One of the reasons I left Sabbath was because Van Halen was blowing us off the stage every night. It was embarrassing." -Ozzy Osbourne
"When I first heard "Runnin' With The Devil" on the radio, I was stunned and found myself dizzy, walking through my high school hallways thinking, "What was THAT?!"
Eddie Van Halen was so innovative and kicked so much ass, and David Lee Roth was for a time indisputably the Greatest Man in America.
If aliens came down and challenged us to a Battle of the Bands to decide the fate of Planet Earth, I would feel very confident putting early Van Halen forward as our champion." -Tom Morello
"There is no heir to the throne of Eddie Van Halen. Nobody sits on that throne. Nobody takes that throne. Here's why it's different with Eddie: when a great guitar player passes, you just move on to another, right? But in this case, Eddie wasn't just a 'guitar player'. We're talking about a guy who changed culture and how we play guitar. He was like an alien coming in and fucking everything up so much that even the legends beforehand are like, 'Okay .. what is happening here? What sorcery is this?'" -Nuno Bettencourt

I have seen LWAN so many times I wish that MTV showed the "POUNDCAKE" performance from the 1991 VMA's instead.
Who was the host that year?
I think it was Arsenio Hall who after the performance said, "Thats the way to kick off an awards show" or something close to that.'Old Van Halen, when I was in it-classic Van Halen-makes you wanna drink, dance and screw, right? And the new Van Halen encourages you to drink milk, drive a Nissan and have a relationship.' - David Lee Roth.
