    Default "Right here right now" Album mystery?

    It's been stated that the album and DVD was recorded over 2 nights at Selland arena, Fresno and was heavily touched up In the studio.
    But the following night at Inglewood, California, they played "Ain't talkin'...", "Love walks in", "Dreams" and "Won't get fooled again". These 4 songs weren't played at the Fresno shows, in fact the whole tour.
    It's been said that they were recorded for the album from 5150 studios only, but I'm thinking that they actually added these 4 songs from the Inglewood shows, and then touched them up later.
    There's a lot of mystery about this album. Does anyone else have any added info?
    What is understood need not be discussed

    I seem to remember reading that the RHRN album (which I love, btw!) featured certain performances that were from different tours altogether? Ie; years apart!
    The bulk were from Frenso and then touched up in 5150, as is well known.

    There was no reason to touch up anything in the studio. I saw them six times on that tour and they were perfection every night. I think Ed and Al were bored and self-conscious. I still love the album, as it does represent how great they sounded live on that tour.

    I agree with your post!

    That album, regardless of touch-ups or spliced performances, means a hell of a lot to me.
    Eddie once said that no matter what you do to get a take on tape, it's the end result that matters. I love the RHRN album.

    The entire album is almost done in the studio per Sam.

    Ed and Al weren't happy with how they sounded, so they re-recorded some stuff,and then it didn't sync with the vocals, so Sam had to re-do that, etc. Rinse and repeat and pretty soon all four guys are in the studio recording entire songs to have crowd noise added into later.

    It's a "live" album as it was recorded live, just most of it is not from the nights at the arena's outside of the crowd noise.

    The whole thing is stupid. No band in the world sounded better live then they did, and they can't even release an actual live album. Never understood it. Reason #1 I usually don't like live albums...most of them aren't. Want to listen to a live album? Listen to a bootleg.

    I look at it (or listen to it!) this way;

    On many of the early VH albums, they played live off the floor for the most part, with minimal overdubs. It's been said that it almost seems like you're sitting there in the studio with them. On Balance, Edward said that it's a true representation of what they hear in the room when jamming. Of course, none of us were there with the band in those cases, but it almost feels like it.

    On RHRN, whether through studio trickery or not, it sounds and feels like you're seeing the 1993 tour in concert. Of course many of us weren't there for those particular performances, yet with the crowd mixed in, it feels like we were/are. I still enjoy it, and don't think about the politics behind it when listening...

    I just remember when I think Ed an Al were on a Rockline or something, talking about their upcoming Live album, and the cuts they played on the radio sounded so much better than what ended up being RHRN. I just never liked the sound of RHRN, mainly Alex's drums, but then the FUCK tour was never one of my favorite sounding of Al's live kits. His OU812 and Balance tour kits sounded much better to me, as far as that era. Not a big fan of Ed's tone on that tour either.

    Funny, the band gets shit on for doing too many touch ups for RHRN, then gets shit on for not doing touch ups to Tokyo Live.

    I was actually listening to both LRHRN and Tokyo just last night...

    Both of them sound incredible to my ears...

    Ed is especially killer on Poundcake and Judgement Day and another cool thing about LRHRN is that you can really hear Mike's bass playing very clearly...

    Have you guys noticed that the album and video audio tracks are different? The most obvious example is Spanked. Compare the two and listen to Ed's guitar.

    Yep. Ed's solo on Cabo Wabo is different on the two as well, and Sam's vocals on YRGM are different too. Even though it's been years since I listened to or watched RHRN those are the two obvious ones I remember.

    It just never sounded good to me. Very over the top, high endy mix, and the crowd noise just killed it for me.

    As for the video, it's a lesson in Attention Deficit Disorder recognition, with all the quick edits back and forth with the clothes being different every five seconds...The re-use of certain scenes in different tracks.....
    I remember me and my buddy being kinda bummed after watching it the first time.
    We were real stoked about picking it up, so after work, we went directly to HMV, picked up some beer, and fired it in the VCR.
    It really was a WTF moment. It did have some highlights though...Not a total loss, but I'd take LWAN over that jumbled mess any day of the week.

    As for touch ups....Yeah, I get it, but by the same token, there was waaaay to many touch ups on RHRN, and I think it just hit people sideways when they heard the bum notes Dave was singing on Panama for Tokyo Dome.....especially for radio play. That said, there's songs he did great on the album, but man...I'd be lying if I said I was enamored hearing him struggle through the "Hot Shoe...Burnin' down the avenue" line.

    I get the argument about it being raw and untouched. "It happened and that's what's on the album" kinda deal, but as far as I'm concerned, if they had say, released a live DVD, and Dave, say pulled a Jimmy Buffet and fell off the stage.....Would they leave that in the video? "It happened, so we left it." Or in kind, if something got screwed up in Jump again, where Ed's guitar was out of tune to the Keys? I'm sure it would have been fixed with an overdub. Even for Kimmel with the nose cut thing, they stopped and redid it for TV.
    It was just a horrible delivery of that lyric. Should have been fixed IMO.
    DTNA had some rough spots too, but all I ever heard about from practically everyone was how bad Panama was because of Dave, and really, we are talking a few seconds of the whole song.
    It just goes to show how bad it was that it affected peoples take on the whole tune.

    Yeah, I just wasn't that big a fan of either Brothers' sound on the '91-'92 tour, and the overproduction on RHRN did not help one bit. Yeah, the treble-y mix just made it sound cavernous or distant to me.

    Lol, my cousin and I had the EXACT same reaction to the RHRN video when I brought it over to his apartment the day I got it. Horrible editing job to say the least. All I can say is I liked Al's solo on it better than the one he did on LWAN.

    It is not a well delivered line by Dave there, but as you said, it is only a few seconds of the entire song and to me was blown way out of proportion. Oh well, I still love the album, and listened to it on the commute home today actually. My biggest problem is that Al's kicks are so buried in the mix. But I do like the sound of his toms on it.

    I loved Van Halen's sound from 1991-1995. The EBMM's and Soldano's launched a sound for which Eddie had been searching for years. Post-1996 the sound and production quality (studio and live) went South.
