I would like to hear everyone's opinions on what the hold up is. Is it legal or health or conflict of egos? We have got alot of skewed info of late from Ed Mike and Dave. I think no one has any idea what they are doing.

Marvin Gaye is dead.
In other news,
Van Halen ain't saying shit. They are mistreating the loyalties of their fans by not saying what their intentions for the future are.
We know that they are on a "little break", shit they have been on a little break for over 3 years.
7 years if you want to go back to the last time they really worked.

I think at this point it's mostly Ed's health. Let's hope he truly is free of cancer, and recovering. I'm no expert, but my guess is that it can take many months of physical and mental healing when dealing with cancer.
=VH= has been at this game a LONG time. I don't think the band is through, and I also don't think they're about to let a handful of rabid internet fans push them into touring before Ed's health is back to 100%. It could be disasterous.
I don't buy into the theory that =VH= is screwing everything up by remaining quiet at this time. Whenever the time is right, if they do another album or tour, I'll give them my FULL support. What a great day THAT will be!!! And if they decide to call it quits, so be it, it's their perogative, but I don't think that's their intention.

Please understantd that this is just my personal opinion/Theory. I personally think that EVH is going thru a mid-life crisis with all that has been going on in his life. I doubt this would ever be verified one way or the other, and no I didn't get this from anyone. It is my own personal theory. I think while Ed might be back in good health physically, I don't think he's ready mentally. I'm sure he's been looking at things a lot differently as he gets older! I know I have in my own life. As we all get older, at some point, we all face our own mortality. It's a very sobering thought " Half my life is over" and then "I'm gonna die!". You realize you're not a kid anymore, you're NOT indestructable, and you're NOT going to live forever. Sux don't it? So, considering the physical problems EVH has suffered thru, and the mental wounds that go with the physical, I wouldn't blame him at all if he NEVER wanted to tour again. I don't blame him for "NOT TELLING THE FANS SHIT" Maybe he just wants to be left the fuck alone with his family for awhile, maybe for good, with no one bugging him. We have all felt that way at one point or another. Some of us just take it to the extreme more than others, and there is nothing wrong with that! So, there's my theory. Who knows, maybe I'm completely off base, it wouldnt be the first time! CYA!

My take... the holdup is simply a break from the business. 25+ years of living, working and indulging in the music business takes it's toll on people. After all this time, I'm sure the band may want to just spend time living life rather than being a rock star. As George Harrison once said...
"It's good to get out and boogie once in a while. But if you boogie all the time you'll miss much of what's really important in life."

Look, the music business ruins many lives and careers in a period of 2-3 years. (I don't need to name names, do I?) Our boys have been at it for 25+ years, all successful. I bet only a fraction of one percent of musicians or can say that.
If =VH= needs "a little break", then they deserve one, BY GUM!!!Staying Frosty

I think VH will be back. With who? Who knows.
EVH has had battles... alcohol, marriage, lead singers, bad hip, and now cancer. I've always thought if you love your job and enjoy what you are doing, it isn't really work. And I'm sure he enjoys his work.
I'm an only child...spoiled rotten, but worth it! So's Wolfie. How old is he? Nine? I wouldv'e loved to have my Dad at home when I got in from school, but he wasn't. He was out busting his ass hauling coal for days on end trying to put food on our table. If my dad were EVH, I'd tell him to get out there and tour...but take me with you. Maybe that's what he's going to do. Maybe he's waiting for Val to quit taping for next season. (if she hasn't already)
I'm sure he knows that he's to rock and roll what Micheal Jordan is to the NBA. He loves music too much. He knows he can still pack arenas, man, is that power or what? Maybe it's more than just a reunion tour for him. He just got through staring death in the face, ya know. He's in control now and I'll bet he wants it to be bigger than any album/tour they've done. No politics...just rock and roll. It's better to have one think you are stupid rather than open your mouth and remove all doubt.

i think you guys are on the right track here. the thing about getting a little older....how true....you get a wake up call...and you think "is this it?" happens to everyone. even vh. it certainly looks as if evh has been doing the home and family thing. this stuff about a divorce seems very unlikely to me. that would certainly be a tragedy. i am sure we all hope that is not the case. as i get older, i am valuing home and personal life a lot more. professionally, i have nothing more to prove, and while i take pride in my work, i no longer have that edge, that drive to prove anything. could it be the same with them? I watched a Behind the music on Neil Diamond last night (Don't flame me for this please, there was nothing else on!!!)
He talked about taking a break from the business the first time in the mid 70's. Said it gave him time to grow up and mature, and appreciate what life is about.
Rememeber folks, these guys were very young when they broke into the business and have not had much time for themselves and families.
Priorities change throughout life, and I think Ed's scare with cancer made him realize this all that much faster.
It's just a break folks. They'll be back in some formation in the future.

To write meaningful songs about "real life", you have to experience some real life firsthand. I think that's what George Harrison's quote is all about. When you start getting songs about being on the road, for instance, you realize that the musicians need a break. (With the possible exception of "Turn the Page", but listen to how tired Bob Seger sounds in those lyrics.) Van Halen, since 1986, has taken a couple years between each album, and while it was hard to wait that long, I don't think they would have lasted as long had they chosen to go non-stop album/tour/album/tour/album/tour... etc.
Some of us enjoy seeing artists grow and muture and write new kinds of music. For that to happen, it takes time.Staying Frosty

you know what?
if i had a little kid and was battling cancer while recovering from hip surgery, i wouldn't give a shit about recording an album for 16 hour sessions and going on a tour for 6-9 months, either.
