I just want to know from the people who saw lots of Sammy era live VH shows and have extensive bootleg collections, which Dave era songs Sammy has sung live. Also, I'd like to know which cover tunes they did live like "Rock and Roll" and "Born on the Bayou". Also, one last request, what different Sammy solo songs were played live with VH. Any info owuld be greatly appreciated.

I remember at some shows on the 5150 tour he let members of the crowd sing the words to "jump".
I've got nothing against Hagar at all, but he seemed out of place singing the Roth era Halen tunes. He does get credit points for playing along.
Looking back, Anthony should have sung those tunes.

Thank you brother Willie. I wish some of the hard core Red-Heads would step to plate and add to the list if there is anything else to add. I know they said it was a whole new band, and Sammy wasn't so comfortable singing those songs from the DLR era, but it was Van Halen, and Van Halen had 6 albums worth of songs before he joined, and from the looks of Loons' list, Sammy played more different cover songs at different times than he did Dave era songs. Does that not mean anything to anyone except a fan who was there from the early days?
"One Way to Rock", "I Can't Drive 55", "Eagles Fly", hell there's 3 solo Sammy tunes he played, and I'm sure there are others. Did they ever rip "3 Lock Box", "Heavy Metal" or any other Sammy solo tunes? I would love to have heard Ed rippin' those pull-offs on "I Don't Need Love".
I'm not trying to start a fight, I'm trying to start a discussion to gain information in a discussion forum. Let's hear from the Red Rocker's main corner. Surely, you guys know all this kind of info, I'm just asking you to share it. Once again, thanks Blind Willie. You always help a brother out in a pinch, and always bring a smile to my face with your killer posts. I just wish me and DiamondD could've hooked up with you at the St. Louis Sam and Dave show. I imagine we'd still be gettin' it!John 3:16, Can You Dig It?

The other cover I've seen is Rockin in the Free World. They did that as an encore in the RHRN tour.

Excellent, because literally the whole band messes it up.
If I remember rightly it is You Really Got Me, then Ed tries to change it into Norwegian Wood on the guitar. But he can't play it. Neither can anyone else. The crowd hum it all the way through though (well funny).
Then Ed plays Waiting For The Bus (ZZ Top) and he then tries to play Norwegian Wood again, and they go back into You Really Got Me...
Fantastic stuff !!
It used to be on the Down In Flames website, but it has gone now. I have it on my home P.C. so it's unavailable to me me at the mo...

They did Stevie Wonder's "Superstitious" at the Monsters of Rock in Dallas in '88.
They did Montrose's "Make It Last" or a half-assed version of it here in OKC for "5150" in'86.

They also did a great cover of 'Wild Thing'. Mike's background vocals gave the song a kick in the ass.
I think so of the diehard Roth fans would have tolerated Sammy a bit more if he had sung more Roth-era tunes. 'Dance The Night Away' would have been nice to hear (yes I did hear Gary sing it).Remember the Heroes - 9/11/01

What would have been nice is if VH did some Sam era songs to counter his displeasure of doing the old =VH=.
Remember everyone, and I know this is a touchy subject, but Sam was already established, and from previous interviews w/ Ed, Alex and Sam, the brothers really hated Dave. It could be that the brothers did not want to regress, rather progress w/ the new music they were putting out.
I remember Monsters @ Miami when they did Runin' w/ the Devil. The crowd went absolutely nuts, but no more than Summer Nights, Black & blue, etc.
It's possible, IMO, that they said, "Fuck it," let's just do the radio hits to keep the fans off our ass (btw, I think that is selfish.)
IT IS POSSIBLE EVERYONE THAT ED WANTED TO FORGET HIS YEARS W/ Dave & playin' those songs just brought back bad memories.
Bad for us, good for Ed. I'm just speculating, as usual!
WHAT IS UNDERSTOOD NEED NOT BE DISCUSSED!

He didn't want to forget those songs. As soon as he got a singer that would sing them, they pulled some oldies out they hadn't played in years.

How many Sammy era songs would Dave sing if he was permitted to return? My guess would be somewhere between zero and none. Hats off to Sammy for swallowing his pride a performing any Van Roth tunes. Only two Van Roth songs were true 'hits' and those are the songs he did over and over and over.
A show can only have but so many songs. With Van Hagar you first have to include your new music, second past Van Hagar hits (excluding 5150 which was the first). Next comes a few Sammy solo songs, then you try to squeeze in a couple Van Roth songs and maybe a cover from time to time. Turn on the lights and start walking to the car.
No one should expect that Hagar was going to go out and cover Roth's material. That wouldn't make sense at all.
I think it would of made a lot more sense for Van Hagar to play more of Sammy's solo stuff than for Sammy to sing Roth songs. If you want a little peace, sometimes you got to fight
