NAMM: Will Mikey say anything Jan 20th?

As you know, Michael Anthony is unveiling his line of Yamaha basses at the NAMM show on Jan. 20th.

Don't you think it would be in Yamaha's best interest to get Mike to at least give an approximate timetable for an album and tour? I don't think Yamaha necessarily wants to put out a line of basses from somebody who's band has fallen off the face of the Earth and is doing nothing, you know?

It's just a matter of good business and simple advertising, IMHO.

It would (I think) help Yamaha sell basses if they could say "see Michael Anthony and his new signature bass on tour this summer, and hear him on the new Van Halen album due in March."

I expect to hear at least a nugget of info out of NAMM, although at this point it wouldn't surprise me if he doesn't say anything, either.

Mikey won't have to say anything at NAMM cause the REUNION ANNOUNCEMENT will be made before that !!!

I agree Brownsound. I said this over at the army too. If the reunion had not been announced it would make no sence for Peavey or Yamaha to have Mike or Ed at NAMM, because all they would get would be questions about the band and everybody would forget about the products they are trying to sell. I think it would all be a lot easier on the instrument companies, the press and the members of Van Halen if the announcement was made before NAMM. Obviously the announcement will not hinge totally around NAMM but I would say it may influence the band's decision on when they will announce the reunion. I'm probably wrong but it makes the most sence to me this way

I got to admit I agree with you guys. If the tour isnt announced before NAMM, it wouldn't be wise to let Mike go. He will get INUNDATED with VH questions. Don't know what Yamaha will do. HAve they already said he will be going???

But, Yamaha IS coming out with a whole new line of basses this year, and it would make all the business sense in the world to have something said by the NAMM show. But, then again, this is the ongoing "VH Soap Opera" and we can't get anything right, in terms of speculating.

Either way, let's hope we hear something...ANYTHING, sometime soon. This is testing the faith of even the hardest of hard-core VH fans.

True but this year there is a general vibe that we are close to an announcement. I think he will get a lot more questions this year than he did last year. Plus he is meant to be promoting his new bass for the first time. Yamaha would be mighty pised off if all the interest was in VH and people forgot about the bass.

Steven B....we didn't get news from Mikey last year because all the Van Halen speculation was just that, in the early stages of " what now " ??? Well NOW people are begining to get a little irritated and non-interest in the Van Halen soap opera is more evident then last year! Losing interest is growing with each passing day there is NO NEWS and in the music industry, this isn't a healthy situation! Although we do have a good idea on the current status of Van Halen today, we didn't know so much last time Mikey was at NAMM...But NOW is the time MIKEY has something to say ...for the sake of Van Halen and its fans for 2001 !!! and of course we can't forget about his new bass
collection for the upcoming tour...

Yeah well if Mikey decides to say the same mumbo jumbo from last year...he may not have AS MANY interested people and more disinterested people to worry about...This game can't continue much longer. Maybe some of you can relate to it, but there is much more to life then worrying about what Van Halen's next move is...and people will soon forget, if half of them already haven't !

Then again...they do have all their millions of dollars to spend then worry about what we think...Unless there is still legal issues to deal with even into the early stages of 2001, Mikey can't say shit...but from what we've heard that the legal problems are over,
there is no reason why we won't hear something before the NAMM date...If not, Mikey is gonna be sitting there like a hostage ready to break loose...

No, it won't be fuck'n cool with me. I suspect the announcement will come on Friday Jan. 26 live from 5150 on the Howard Stern show, also Eddie's 46th B-day. I heard Stern is gonna be in L.A. that weekend. So I believe Mikey is just gonna smile and keep quiet. If I was at NAMM I would beat it out of that short fat wig wearin piece of useless shit.
