    From www.melodicrock.com
SAMMY READY TO CHALLENGE PINK FLOYD:
In a recent interview with Contra Costa Times' music critic Tony Hicks, Sammy Hagar said that he says the Planet Us album will be a concept record rivaling Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon, tackling world affairs. He added that it doesn't faze him in the slightest that concept records don't generally sell well.
2003 should also see a Hagar 'life on the road' book and movie released.

That pretty much discounts any Sammy and VH reunion in the near future.

When Sammy Hagar, a man known for his extraordinary exaggerations of Van Hagar record sales, starts selling the fact that record sales dont matter, you know that he doesnt sell anymore !

I guess using his current theology. "Not 4 Sale" must be a "Concept Album"

At least we will hear 1/4 of Van Halen (Mike Anthony) in the near future.

When Sammy Hagar writes a concept album better than Dark Side Of The Moon I will light myself on fire. I'm sorry. I like Sammy but there's just no way he can outdo that classic.

Yeah we all know "concept" albums like Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon and The Wall don't sell well... they just squander life away in the top 10 All time best selling albums for years...

Man he really wants to say he has done everything before he dies. Money isn't an issue for him anymore. I'm sure he still likes making as much of it as he can but he has the freedom to do what he wants now.

I'm guessing this means if he plays RedneckFest like Roth, he will do it because he wants to do it. Not so he can afford to keep the web site(s) running.

There is no way in Hell that "Sammy's concept album will EVER outsell Dark Side Of The Moon. Heck, even "Extreme's" Three Sides To Every Story CD, which was a LAME attempt at a concept album, will have higher numbers than Sam's Planet Us thing.

I don't mean this is a disparaging way, because Sammy is great at what he does and he doesn't pretend to be any more or less, but don't you think Sammy is a little too one-dimensional to come close to releasing a concept album of Pink Floyd proportians?

Hagar has a great rock voice. I think he should stick to that.

Spammy is not even a pimple on the ass of a fly comparing the talent of him to Floyd. And for all you SHEEP, neither is Dave...there I said it. Floyd is unfuckinbeleiveably multidimensional. Van HALEN comes close, however.

I wouldn't even say that that Van Halen the band come close to being anywhere near as "multidimensional" as Pink Floyd. However, having said that, I don't think that Eddie has even attempted to do this.

He's restricted the bands output pretty much to rock music, which he is very good at making.

I beg to differ slightly with the previous posts. Yes, alone, there's no chance in hell that Sam could come up with anything remotely close to DSOTM.
But here, we're not talking about Sam coming up with the material, but with Neal Schon writing it. This makes it a little more achievable (I'm not saying it's a sure thing, I'm saying it's a possibility).
A pooint of reference is the concept trilogy "Animation/Valley Of The Kings/Giza" on the HSAS album. While not Floydian, it is definitely progressive, epic and spacey.
So with the proper music (again I insist, not written by him), Sam could be involved in a "floydian" album. He has written around science-fiction themes as well as Egyptian/Spiritual ("Seventh Seal", "Space Station #5") stuff in the past. Sam can adapt, he has shown it in the past.

So the real question is what Neal Schon's abilities are right now. At the top of his game, this could happen.

LOL! It comes and goes for me. I just avoid any of the Sammy Vs. Dave rantings! "FanHalen" will return for me when VanHalen returns for all of us!

This is a good move for Sam and I'm sure he'll double the sales of his last record.

Sammy's lyrical strength lies in writing half-ass nursery rhymes and party anthems. The Dark Side of Cabo Wabo.
