I was watching VH1 this morning. They have this "Jump Start" thing on while they play videos in the morning. It's basically a ticker that runs across the top of the screen and reports the latest music news. Anyway, they have picked up on the DLR website stuff, probably from VHND. Anyway, it said "David Lee Roth still not talking to Van Halen. He is working on a side project that has him working with Metallica's Lars and Kirk, Niles Rodgers from Chic and Joe Cocker." That's all it said, but at least someone out there is beginning to notice that DLR and VH are at a stalemate.

Still not talking?
O.K.
Eddie. you now have my endorsement to go and find another singer.
It seems like Dave is the one dragging his heals now in regards to a reunion.
He is rushing to complete his "long awaited" yet will still only sell a handful of copies DVD. Then he rejoins VH and then his dvd sells like hotcakes because people will care about Dave again.
FUCK YOU DAVE!!!!
Eddie, go and find yourself a singer that WANTS to be in Van Halen. I will accept whomever you get because it will be better than no Van Halen at all.
Let Dave try and push his dvd with his own floundering stuck in neutral career.

A music station actually stated some info about DLR? What, there was no nsync unplugged concert to broadcast?

Eddymon - I have to take major issue with your statements about Dave now being the hold-up. Was Dave supposed to wait for years and years on end until the time was right for Ed to collaborate? That would mean DLR could never do any solo projects in the meanwhile because Eddie might decide to give him a call halfway through a record and ask him to drop what he is doing. WTF?!!
None of us know the entire story, but we can look at the facts that we do know:
- By all accounts, Ed, Al, & Mike have recorded shitloads of tracks since VHIII. They have oodles of material that could be used in any DLR reunion. This doesn't even count the scores of unreleased VH/DLR tunes that could always be re-recorded as B-side bonus material filler, too.
- Ed was well enough to play celebrity golf tournaments this summer and attend charity events in the winter (Styx photo)
- Van Halen has always played down the seriousness of Edward's illness. Fans have speculated that it might be bad, but all public comments from the Van Halen camp (Ed, Val, etc) are to the contrary.
The bottom line is how much more NEW "work" would Ed need to do to pull off a killer new reunion album. Nada! DLR would be the one to put in the serious studio time (Ed, Al, Mike have already done most of their part already!) Maybe rearrange or record some pieces, but nothing major, I would guess.
Some fans might scream "but it won't be a true collaboration" if DLR just records vocals over finished tracks. Nonsense! They have always worked this way. Ed gave DLR cassette tapes all the time. How many notes of music did DLR write during his time with VH? None. How many notes did Sammy write? None. The music is Ed's department -- any collaboration is likely in track selection, arrangement, engineering, packaging, bells & whistles.
I'll stop there before I write book!

here's my official Mtv top 10
1-Nstink
2-Britney
3-Mariah
4-JLo
5-one of those R&B chicks
6-Backstreet Boys
7-Madonna
8-some rap guy
9-that revolving door R&B girl group
10-that Gweyn Stiffinme chick and whatever artist she's suckin' up to at the moment
that's the Mtv starting lineup, and has been for about 3-4 years.
then you have 3 or 4 other bands that come in off the bench. if your entire universe of music was based on Mtv you would think that "let's start our own band" would mean "let's go down to the theatre and find us some dancers"
anyone else think that this is the modern day version of the "Frankie Avalon Pat Boone" era???
I still think that both Mtv and Vh1 will find room for Van Halen in some capacity--it's obvious they want to see them back when they report on rumors that we know are bullshitEat Us and Smile!

WOW!!! HOLYFUCKINGFUCK!!! What kind of Twilight Zone am I living in? What kind of Viagra-Testosterone mix are these 50 year old + guys on? I never thought I'd hear another Dave and Eddie album again. If I did, I thought it would be a mid-paced affair like the Rolling Stones or later day AC/DC. After the TATTOO single I was ready for a poppy album from old guys, with a few nods to harder rock (She's A Woman and Bullethead) and I would have been happy with that.
I NEVER THOUGHT I'D BE GETTING A FULL-THROTTLE HARD ROCK, HEAVY METAL, BALLS TO THE WALL, FUCKING VAN HALEN THRASH METAL ALBUM!!!

I think that Dave is hagglin' for THE BIG PRIZE---not being an employee to VH in any way shape or form --and being able to make the most money possible for the longest time period.
and I don't see Dave taking any off from them other than the one that says "You are not an employee of ours and can go around "being Dave" all you want and you'll get lots of money and will not have to worry about us ganging up on you and stabbing you in the back as long as you don't walk out on us again"Eat Us and Smile!

Apparently Dave has dropped enough names to get him noticed. That's fucking sad.
I think that DLR is the hold up. I didn't start thinking that way until that November interview. Dave made it sound like he's got the VH brothers over a barrel, and is smugly waiting for them to meet his terms.
Take that back to the war of the websites last year. Dave was trying to force VH's hand. Eddie pulled out his cancer card, and that ended that.
Dave seems to have gained a lot of confidence in his performances this summer. I'm not one to take Eddie at his word, but he did say that he was ready to do it until lawyers got involved.
We all assume that Dave wants in so bad that he'd do almost anything, and that VH is naturally the hold up. That doesn't seem to be the case anymore, does it? Dave seems content to sit and wait for his terms to be met, while VH is floundering.

Besides, can you imagine DLR actually working FOR Eddie? Ed can hardly keep his story straight from one interview to the next. Doesn't exactly strike me as being the "management type".

Welcome back, Van HALEN!!!!
...It's the BAND and Dave is really the cat that can front VH. He sang his ASS off and was really cool. No cheese here guys, this is filet Mignon! - Steve Lukather's comment after witnessing a Van HALEN 2007 rehearsal
