Glenn posted about how people will react if Dave's not coming back but Sammy is and vice a versa.
Now heres a question to all the David Lee Roth Army soldiers and the Sammy Hagar Drinking Buddies.
Will you continue to support the band if either one comes back or will your love for the "singer out in the cold" squash your feelings about the band?
I would love Dave to be back but if it just can't happen then I would also love a return of the Red Rocker.
One of my first posts here was a topic titled "Sammy will be back, mark my words"
I said that with a gut feeling and the fact that the band did work with Roth again (1996) and that Eddie and Sammy seemed alot tighter than Eddie and Dave did. So it just hit me as the Sammy "firing" was done in haste and I still feel that way.
If either one happens, then we will all benefit because Van Halen will be back.
A 4th singer will be even harder to accept than Gary was because of the past 2 years of sort of being let on thinking that Dave is back.
I might just move on with this band if a 4th singer does come in. It would have to be someone very impressive, 2nd class won't due this time.
'Old Van Halen, when I was in it-classic Van Halen-makes you wanna drink, dance and screw, right? And the new Van Halen encourages you to drink milk, drive a Nissan and have a relationship.' - David Lee Roth.

Both Dave and Sammy have completed their tenure with Van Halen. For some reason I can't see either one contributing anything that they haven't already done. It was quite apparent that Sammy was running dry after OU812....and this Dave thing just doesn't seem to be working at all. I mean, if the magic was there...it'd be there.
A 4th singer would not be the end of the mighty Van Halen. It just happened that Gary joined up when the band tried stretching the music a little. And people just don't like change.
I hope VH continue changing and leave the past where it belongs.

"it is quite apparent Sammy [was]running dry after OU812"? WTF are you talking about? Atleast give some rational support to your claim... F.U.C.K. had several hits. And so did "Balance." Did Sammy run "dry" or are you just up in the freaking night... This is your claim, you support it! I will defend my position (easily)!

No matter which one caomes back I will be there to see it. Of course I would prefer Sammy, but no matter who the next singer is I will still support the band.

I would be happy with the return of either Dave or Sammy. I don't think any other formula will work at this stage of their career.
gabbygabbster- "Sammy ran dry after OU812?" What Van Halen were you listening to? Not only did FUCK and Balance go #1 after OU812, but FUCK won VH their first Grammy for best Hard Rock \ Metal Album and also won the Billboard and American Music Award for the same honor. They won three MTV video Awards for "Right Now", including "Video of the Year", and had six #1 AOR tracks off that album. They also completed one of their best tracks ever, "Humans Being", for the Twister Soundtrack.

In my case, I will always follow the band and what they do whether I like what they are doing or not.
So, bring on the music.
I still think Sammy should be the Red Rocker and Van Halen should be Van Halen.

DLR comes in a strong first, but I'd still buy a sammy album. A fourth singer would piss me off to no end, but I would buy it.sheepa latta peepah dabba looka foh a moopy

I would REALLY prefer it if Sam came back, but if it's DLR, I'll be there with bells and whistles on as well.
My BIGGER concern is whether or not we're going to hear anything! The longer this "No News" BS goes on, the more concerned I'm getting My Band

Uhh..yes, Sammy ran dry after OU812. Opinion of course, but look at the facts......
(and, sales do *not* count)
Sammy's lyrics seriously took a turn for the moronic with FUCK. Spanked, Man on a Mission, shit like that is pretty damn lame, never mind boring. I wouldn't say everything he did was bad, but he just seemed to really start to get lazy. I believe Sammy became more interested in drinking tequila down at the beach than putting any new effort into songwriting. Take a listen to his lastest solo stuff....Mas Tequila is a complete rip-off.
Van Halen and Samuel are on two totally different levels.
Then with Balance we got some more of the lamo crap...Amsterdam, Can't Stop putting love in my Songs, Not Enough.
Then take a look at the Balance tour. To me anyway, it was painfully obvious that Sam's voice wasn't what it once was. Has anyone heard the live boot "Secret Gig"? Ouch! Sammy, please stop before you throw up that lung. Yes, I believe Sammy has one of the best voices in rock n' roll, or at least did at one time...it's just too bad he ruined many VH tunes with his lyrical dribble.

First off, is this basketball? Sammy had dribble? Perhaps you mean the comic strip 'Drabble', or even you refer to 'drivel'. But dribble makes no sense.
I am a huge Hagar-era fan, and I will admit the weak spots when they occur. To ME, Get Up, Inside, Sucker in a 3 Piece, Spanked, In N Out, Man on a Mission, Big Fat Money, and Aftershock are all throwaway tunes. Not just due to Sammy, but the music itself I consider to be substandard material from the band. Perhaps Sammy's lyrics were sub-par because the music wasn't much to his liking? (actually, Spanked's lyrics are actually humorous-I think people tried to take them seriously for some reason)
But when you look at the number of excellent songs Sammy did with VH, they FAR outweigh the ones I listed. Also consider that for FUCK and Balance, they had several leftover tracks that for some reason didn't get picked. Maybe they were better, who knows? Suggesting that Sammy was on the skids after OU812 doesn't make a lot of sense.
And it isn't like Dave was at the top of his game during that same period either, ya know.Don't bark at me...I didn't name ya.

I'd like to see Ted Nugent front Van Halen. Now THAT would be a show .
