I don't post here much, more of just a lurker. All the rumors and lack of news is pissing me off just as much as everyone else.

But I was listening to the radio this morning and thinking. If/when VH puts out a new album, what station will play it? I live in the Denver area and we have a variety of radio stations. A hard rock station, two classic rock stations, an 80's station, and who knows how many pop/modern rock stations (I don't listen to those). The hard rock station plays mostly very heavy, hard rock from new bands (most of which I don't really care for), not much VH. The classic rock stations play old VH, but aren't going to play anything new. The 80's stations plays Jump and that's about it. The pop/modern rock station only plays bands link the Backdoor Boys, N-Stink, and Britney "I'm really not a slut" Spears. So when the new VH comes out, were can we go on the radio to here it?

Every station that plays Rock thats not an all alternative format.

If they have a song like JUMP, then maybe some top 40 stations will play it as well.
You hear bands like, Nickleback, Staind and Kid Cock on top 40 because they do 1 song per album for top 40 play because it helps sell records, especially if its played on Rick Dees weekly top 40.
'Old Van Halen, when I was in it-classic Van Halen-makes you wanna drink, dance and screw, right? And the new Van Halen encourages you to drink milk, drive a Nissan and have a relationship.' - David Lee Roth.

you hit it right on the nose, cabobrain. into what market will the new VH stuff fit?

obviously, the current state of the music market has not gone unnoticed by VH and management. when you boil it down, the market for the VH style of music is steadily shrinking (sales of sambo's Ten 13 will support this statement. love him or hate him, Ten 13 is the best stuff he's put out on his own since Hampton, and there just isn't a place for it on the dial today.) it seems every month i hear fewer and fewer of the rock stations playing VH tunes. hell, even huge bands that are still active, like the Stones, aren't getting the air time they did just a couple of years ago. U2'current success is clearly an anamoly.

i believe that the evidence is mounting that we have seen the last of VH. a number of factors, including a fast changing music market, are to blame. the total failure of VHIII and the on/off bullshit with dave play a big part, too.

we live and die by time. vh has squandered the last several years, waisting the good will of their fans through rumors and innuendo. the break up with sumo-sammy was tough enough, but the "now you see him, now you don't" bullshit with dave has got to be one of the biggest fuck ups in the history of rock.

My local classic rock station plays a lot of VH, but for some reason the station that plays new rock and other rock from the 80's and 90's NEVER plays VH. Hopefully they'll play new VH music when--sorry, if, we get any.

The same stations that started playin' Me Wise Magic an' Can't Get This Stuff No More 'fore all hell broke loose and Van Halen started failin'...Diamond Dave, meanwhile back at the ranchero, puts out a smokin' ROTH N ROLL album, the best Van Halen album since '84, releases a great, great book, an' tours the world with a re-united Bad Company and then has a great DAVE SAVES THE DAY TOUR in '01, playin' to crowds of 48,000 an' 22,000 an' so on an' so forth... Yeah, pretty much. Any station that calls themselves simply a rock station will definitely play it. For example, if they're playing Mick Jagger's "God Gave Me Everything I Want" and Neil Young's "Let's Roll," they'll most likely play new VH.

And as SeriousDooDoo said, Sammy's album "Ten 13" got absolutely no air play here. Maybe it's because no one liked it, but I thought it was a good album. I would think it would have gotten a lot of air time about 5 or 10 years ago. Maybe I'm just getting to old!

if the post regarding WB dropping VH is true, i think it says two things:

one, the reunion with dave is not happening. WB would NEVER let VH out of their contract with that much $$$ in the wind.

second, brain and i were right about the lack of market appeal for the VH-style of rock music. the record biz is all about cash. if WB thought VH was worth it, they'd keep them. the fact that they're dropping VH (assumming the report is true) tells me WB sees no future for the band.

it's very clear to me now that VH is toast. mikey's comments about Dave rejoining the band were probably wishful thinking on his part. i don't think he would tell a bald face lie.

Interesting speculation. Do we know for sure who dropped whom here? Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but aren’t there a LOT more radio stations that are owned by a big, central nation-wide corporation now? Like "Clear Channel" etc? That being the case, radio stations are a much different animal now than they were in the early 80s. Radio stations were truly cool in the early to mid 70s (FM) when there was much more independence. Now........it's all the same damn songs every hour over and over and over. The only local station that I can hear near me, plays songs ONLY off of their "Best of" - they keep playing the screwed up "Runnin With the Devil" even though they've been told numerous times it's the screwed up version.
You guys are right, radio stations, TV, and record companies are just awful right now - never been worse. Good thing we have the Internet so we can actually find out about and buy art that isn't rammed down our throats.
