Don't know if this is the place for this topic, but it's as good a place as any to start.
I don't think this month's question is fair. Better is a tricky word.
First,
I voted no to the poll. No big deal, I love all of Eddie's work, but I happen to prefer the "raw" Eddie, rather than the "mature" Eddie. Ted Templeman stated that he saw a change in Eddies playing as he became more wealthy. Who knows?
Is he a different player than in 1978? Of course. The question is how will he sound on a full album back with Dave? I can't wait.
Peace

You're right, "better" is an ambiguous term.
I voted yes.
Maybe the October poll question will be "better".

Yes, October's poll will be, "What Is the Best Definition Of The Word Better?" Blame, Timmy, this month's poll was his idea.
See how easily I shift blame.

Well, as soon as I have some current Edward Van Halen guitar work to compare to 1978, I'll be glad 'n let you know!

Yes guys, blame me. The idea of the question was mine but (here's where I shift the blame again back to Brett
) but I didn't give it to him word for word that way.

.....see the thing with ed's guitar playing is this : you rediscover and you rediscover , his playing is timeless ....but i will say this - MY ears liked the older tone , dont get me wrong the after 1984 tone was great but i think more effects got in-between the guitar and amp - u miss those little things in his phrazing.....5150 was great .....balance was great ....who the hell am i to cut on the king ......he is just thinking future not the past

Good thoughts people,
I don't get the chance to read and respond to this board much anymore, new job, verry busy, but love to read it when I get the chance and respond occasionally.
Anyway, just a suggestion, but could you re phrase the poll question to "Which era of Eddie's playing do you "prefer" now or 1978?
That might make things all better
Peace

Rover, I hear you but I do listen to a few on the list fairly often: Bad Co, Billy and Soundgarden being the most prominent. I also love Joy Division/New Order altho some of my friends thought they...
