The only one that might be close would be the first one IF you were talking about the live version of Eagles Fly where the band kicks in near the end. That version of the song is amazing, and Eddie's lead work just lifts that song into the stratosphere. Even still California Girls is probably better, but the live version of Eagles Fly might have made the decision tougher.

But then the live version of "Eagles Fly" can't really count as solo, can it?
Anyway, have to give the vote to all-Dave - but then, I haven't even heard all of those Sammy songs (including the aforementioned "Eagles Fly")If you like what you see here, please click here to donate!

I prefer Sammy, but some of those matchups are tough...
1. California Girls
2. There's Only One Way to Rock
3. Serious JuJu
4. Let Sally Drive
5. Heavy Metal
Of course, no representation for such staples as ICD55 and YLIDMC. ICD55 would have beaten California Girls for me handily

Awards:
All Roth here too.
Sams solo stuff doesnt really do much for me I'm sorry. Some of Roths doesnt either, but he wins all those matchups.
Bout time we had another Dave Vs Sam topic too. That's the argument that NEVER gets old

In the comparison of these songsm Dave wins straight down. When you are comparing their solo careers head to head, Sammy demolishes Dave! He was established before there even was VH. Dave became a solo artist after 8 platinum years with Van Halen. Huge difference!

Oh come on Wolfie. You could have done a better job with the choice. Man, when I did that big ass Dave song tournament. I seeded those mofo's based on my peers preception of them. I don't like Atomic Punk that much. I like it but it's not one of my top 20 from Dave's entire catalog. I'd have done something like this.....
1)Yankee Rose vs Give to Live
8)Heavy Metal vs California Girls
5)Just like Paradise vs Little White Lies
4)TOOWTR vs Ladies Night in Buffalo
7)ALAE vs I Can't Drive 55
6)Bad Motor Scotter vs Tell the Truth
3)Just a Gigolo vs Serious Juju
2)Eagles Fly vs Slam Dunk
..... You gotta make to where Dave's best meets Sam's best in the end. Not at the beginning. Oh well, your battle.... my choices are......
Cali Girls
Yankee Rose
Slam Dunk
Black Sand
ALAEEat Us and Smile!

Word, man. And I am, too.
Although, I'd give Sam at least one nod if (and only if) "Yankee Rose" was up against the VH version of "One Way To Rock." Their version shit all over Sam's original.
But, since this is strictly "solo," as in the original versions of the songs, I'd have to give Dave the sweep.

all Dave
Sam's stuff is ok, but come on, i even dare to say that CGTSNM and MWM is better than anything Van Hagar ever did.
and pliiiiiz don't even start to compare DLR's solo career to anything Cherone ever did
cheers,
SToRMdave, we'd like to go upstairs, the two of us, with you ...

Storm - That is a pretty bold statement. I don't think there was anything Dave did solo that was better then what Van Halen did with Sammy Hagar. Obviously, the sales and chart success tells you that.
Gary was not that bad. There were two Extreme albums that outsold most of the Sammy and Roth solo material. In fact, Gary in Van Halen outsold Sammy and Dave's solo releases at that time by over 200,000 or 300,000 copies.
Lets be fair here.
