Hello....first time message here....
Ive been a VH fan from the get go...I loved the Roth years....was pissed when he left...elated when Sammy came in and saved the show...deeply confused and saddened when he departed/got his ass kicked out....was disgusted by the Cherone album...I still...to this day have not bought that piece of trash....
I , like the rest of you...wish they would all get going and at least throw us a bone..whether its with Dave...or whoever
the point of this is...I am sick of those out there who have and continue to malign Sammy Hagar and the years he spent in this band....
Sammy Hagar is a helluva guy....and I personally think he got the shaft big time by the VH boys...
and I think it was all in the name of the almighty dollar...
Sammy is ten times the singer and guitarist that Dave ever was/will be and the band was much deeper with him on board, both musically and philosophically....and face it...without him, Van Halen wouldve been at the point it is now in 1986
dead in the water!
Thats not to say that a reunion with Dave would be awful...it would be cool to see....but I wonder if they would be relevant...or just a nastalgia act....like Styx...or Journey are now...
Time will tell...
I appreciate your time, and any feedback anyone has to offer

whewwwweee!! I'm glad your welcoming the feedback!
I think Sam was a good choice at the time also. Not sure who else would have done as well at that time and had the endurance to go as long as he did with them.
I disagree with the possibility of VH being a Nostalgia act had Dave continued. At the time they parted ways, I saw no ceiling to how far they could go with each other. Rock and Rolls biggest loss IMO.

Thanks for the welcome seenbad, cool to be here...
I think you misunderstood me about Dave...I didnt mean they would have been a nostalgia back in the 80s with him..I mean if he comes back now...
If Roth had stayed in then...I'm sure they would have had further sucess...but would they had survived the onslaught of grunge and the influx of guitar sololess (so called) music ?
and of course I welcome feedback...mine is just one little mans opinion

Yeah, I totally misunderstood you. Been reading too fast tonight I think.
On that note, I dont think it would be a Nostalgia tour now either since Ed insists upon new material prior to a tour. That keeps it fresh. And if the songs rock, their new again.sheepa latta peepah dabba looka foh a moopy

At this point, Van Halen with Dave would be no more a nostalgia act than Van Halen with Sammy. Neither exactly "fit in" to today's current music scene. I don't think this will happen though, as long as the band puts out some new music.
I'd also have to disagree with the idea that the band grew-- in any way-- with Sammy in the band. Granted, he helped keep the band commercially viable, and put out a few decent tunes, but the creativity and passion that was such a force within the band when Dave was there is painfully lacking during the Sammy years.
I do agree that Sammy was shafted by the VH bros. I've never cared much for Sammy as a singer, but he didn't deserve to be dumped as unceremoniously as he was. That whole "He has no work ethic" angle the Bros played was obviously garbage, you can just compare the amount of music Sammy has put out since 1996 vs what Van Halen has done to see the lie in that.
Lastly, VDIII is without question the most godawful piece of shit I've ever had the misfortune of buying, and quite possibly one of the worst albums ever made.
I'd say welcome to the club, but since I'm not a regular, I'll just say nice to meet ya! I used to know this guy, he played with dolls...

i loved the dlr years and also loved the sammy years, i even bought vh3 just because it was a vh album. i think sammy would be a better choise then dlr only because if they want to go on, dont get me wrong i would love to see dlr back but i think that wont last i think it would be one album and tour and if it did not work that would be the end of vh, and i would rather see vh go on for as long as they could even if that ment getting a 4th singer. i think it will be sammy who is back only because he keeps saying if the fans want him he would do it(and you know we would take him back)and if vh comes to cabo to jam for a week and it sounded good he would do an album, i think he wants in again and maybe that is were vh has been down in cabo. who knows but all i know is that i want vh back.
van halen shall return. what you think is nothing might be something after all.

This is coming from a big Sammy fan from his pre-VH days, i.e. Trans Am, This Planet's on Fire, Red, Only One Way to Rock, I Can't Drive 55, Heavy Metal, the list goes on. He was the Red Rocker. Hell I saw him at the Texas Jam in 79 and 80, in 79 he shared the stage with some band from Calif., a bunch of young guys named Van Halen.
Anyway, I was really bummed when Dave left in 85, but figured if anyone could replace him it might as well be Sammy. The first 2 albums with him were pretty damn good I thought. After that, things got a bit more sensitive, pop-oriented. The whole Van Halen attitude had changed. My view became that Classic Van Halen was and always would be David Lee Roth. Doesn't mean that Sammy's stuff was bad, just that the 2 incarnations are quite different.
I have no more desire to see Sammy back with VH than I do to get back with my ex. Seeing Dave back on the other hand, would be the equal of a religious experience, an ephiphany, a rapture, sex with Pam Anderson. (OK, maybe not quite the Pam deal)
As far as the band not fitting in with todays "music", well I Damn well hope not. To paraphrase George Thorogood, "There are 2 kinds of music today, Rock-n-Roll, and that crap that's on MTV.

Because he doesn't like an album that almost nobody did, he's a piece of trash? Jesus, who are you? Eddie in disguise? You seem kinda psycho with your insanely bad writing and totally over-the-top remarks. Go to hell, BedWet.

Hey Kev....
When was the last time you heard Van Hagar on the radio??
I heard Van HALEN just this morning. Oddly enough I also heard a Montrose song.
So it's not that people hate Sammy Hagar, or at least I don't. It's the fact that the chemistry that made Van HALEN a timeless explosive legendary band was gone when Dave left. And yes, even Montrose (original lineup only) was like that to a lesser degree. And some of Sammy's early solo material was great.
On paper, a collaboration between Sammy Hagar and the 3 remaining members of Van Halen looked like a safe bet. Sure it wasn't going to sound like Van HALEN. How could it? But it would rock anyway.
On vinyl, it didn't happen that way.
For some reason Sammy & Eddie decided to focus on being a commercial hit factory. Cheese ballads were suddenly needed to get on radio and MTV when creativity was all the original band needed. Were there some good songs in there as well? Sure. But even those were mostly formula, and don't have the same timeless quality.
The problem with music that is designed to be trendy is that a few years later it just sounds silly. When you listen to a radio station like "The Point", you do so because you want to feel nostalgic for high school or whatever. No other radio stations are playing Flock of Seagulls. Or Poison. Or Thomas Dolby. Or Van Hagar.
Yet the rock stations play Van HALEN every day. Just as they do the Beatles, the Stones, and Led Zeppelin. Bands that have stood the test of time and whose music sounds just as great now as it did then. You aren't going to find many people saying that about "Cheese comes walking in".
If Van Hagar were to make another album today, it would fail to chart because it would use the old formula. And in 2002, synth pop cheese ballads aren't going to break through the strangle hold that the bubblegum industry has on music.
But a Van HALEN reunion will give rock n roll the kick in the ass it's needed since the day Soundgarden broke up.Eat Us And Smile
Welcome back, Van HALEN!!!!
...It's the BAND and Dave is really the cat that can front VH. He sang his ASS off and was really cool. No cheese here guys, this is filet Mignon! - Steve Lukather's comment after witnessing a Van HALEN 2007 rehearsal

Amen. I've needed a real dose of rock n' roll ever since 1996 when I got the last Soundgarden album and the last two good Van Halen songs. If VH want to continue to do nothing about it, then I will be happy to listen to Cornell's new album with RAGE this year. The one MP3 I have points to a total Soundgarden sound, not a Rage sound. Mind you, I like both bands, but Soundgarden is the better of the two by far."I had a girl beating on my hotel door all night...She was screaming, crying. Welcome to the forum!
I have to disagree with you. I don't believe the band really grew with Sammy...I believe there's very little that's unique about the man. I don't appreciate his lyricss (find them a little childish and often pretentious) and his melodies are definitely run-of-the-mill. Dave was completely unique, and I feel that with him they were more than just a great band with an amazing guitarist...they were living legends. Nobody touched their sound. They were simply incredible.
I feel that the band did very good work with Sam, and am glad he was around since Dave wasn't. But personally, I still feel that the greatest hard rock band in history truly ended in 1985.
Anyway, I don't hate Sammy fans or anything. And am happy to disagree. Glad to have you aboard. It's a lot of fun here, although it would be a whole lot more fun if we actually had new music or a fucking tour to talk about!
