Val in "Redbook" Mag.

My wife's Redbook Mag came in the mail today. Val was on the cover. She talked about the split with Ed. She said Ed was diagnosed with tounge cancer in 1999. He had part of his tongue removed in 2000 and started smoking again. Ed's cancer returned and he was told he had a 50% chance of survival. Val said she was fed up "Somebody who knows how to help themselves but won't do it"
Just passing along the info.....

Before everyone gets upset lets clarify that Val was refering to the second bout. Since then he has been given a clean bill of health.

As Killroy said, Ed was diagnosed after this as having a clean bill of health. AFTER 2000.

I can understand it to a degree and I still hold out hope that they'll get back together, thinking that Ed needs this time on his own to really decide what's important here. I also don't think that him and the cancer was the only problem between them and that it was the last straw. Still, I can't imagine breaking up with someone you've spent practically your all adult life with when they've got cancer, but that's just me.

I've never been addicted to anything. They say every day is a struggle and a fight. Does that struggle really outweigh your intelligence?

Ed is no junkie, transient bum from off the street. He's probably a pretty bright guy, he was surrounded by an intelligent woman and a son. Does the struggle really outweigh a man's intelligence, his health, his family? At this stage in his life does he really not get it?

I would like to think that he would take the struggle and the fight head on, but, I don't know what it's like.
