If Dave nor Sammy is an option at this point and the band is considering a fourth frontman, I think another 80's guy would be a bad idea. If they were to choose Sebastian Bach or Kip Winger or Bret Michaels or whoever, a certain stereotype would follow the band and people would think they were trying to cash in on the recent "80's trend" that's become popular.
I feel like the best idea would be to find someone young and unknown. Young so that new life could be breathed into the band and give them potentially another three or so albums in their career. Unknown so that no baggage or expectations from his previous "big-name band" would overshadow VH.
Can't you imagine some energetic 25 or 30 year old guy belting out classic VH and performing Dave-style acrobatics onstage?
Just a thought open to debate...

You are certainly correct that none of the hair pansies would work. But neither will an "unknown". There simply is no way to succeed under the name of Van Halen at this point without a reunion of the true Van HALEN.
This isn't the summer of 1985. This isn't Eddie Van Halen, winner of the "guitarist of the year" award for 7 consecutive years. This is Edward Van Halen, the guy who has spent the last 6 years willfully destroying his own career. There isn't a label on earth who will sign him with no singer, and no label worth a damn that would sign him with a 4th singer. It's time you and Ed both faced that reality.Eat Us And Smile
Welcome back, Van HALEN!!!!
...It's the BAND and Dave is really the cat that can front VH. He sang his ASS off and was really cool. No cheese here guys, this is filet Mignon! - Steve Lukather's comment after witnessing a Van HALEN 2007 rehearsal

Good point, but I think the Jason Newstead article in the Music Forum shed some light on why it's problematic to hire a young kid for the gig.
Ed, Al and Mike are veterans. They've gotten fucked up with Black Sabbath for christ sake, not to mention wrote tons of music and had hours and hours of experience in the studio. They know the business and how shady it is, and I think they'll need a veteran to hold the line.
I love the idea (if there is a fourth) of getting someone unknown, without baggage, but if the guy or gal can't stand up to Eddie, then we'll just have another VH3 situation.
It would need to be a person with musical prowess. Somone who knows his or her own voice and how to use it. And someone who has the experience to but the bullshit aside and make music.RLRR LRLL

There is no way I could ever support VH if they got some faggot hairband wannabe to be their next singer. I would be embarrased as a fan and as a human being if they ended up with someone like Sebastian Bach or Kip Winger or Bret Michaels. It makes me want to hurl just reading those names. Cherone was a mistake, especially trying to make him another Sammy, and I think the VH boys realize that. Why would they creep even lower down the evolution chart and get one of the three above mentioned singers? The best bet would to bring either Dave or Sam back. I just don't see Eddie going back with Dave though, regardless of the money. I can see Sam being back in the picture though, but if he is going to be part of VH again, they better get him quick, I mean the guy isn't getting any younger. I think the most likely scenario, even if I don't necessarily agree with it, would be VH IV. It wouldn't surprise me if it was someone like Mitch Malloy. Maybe Rich Wyman, although I don't know much about him other than the few tracks Eddie played on his solo cd. There just aren't that many worthy and familiar names out there anymore...
Always one more,
You're never satisfied.
Never one for all with you,
It's only one for me

.....i love the idea about multiple singers...it's gonna keep the band fresh & inspired....but really,...how in the hell they gonna tour....maybe as 3 piece..and a pre-recorded vocal with the JUMBO - TRON VISUAL OF THE SINGER FOR EACH SONG!!!!..just an idea

F**k off FORD!!!
I for one am sich and tired of you singing the praises of DLR. Dave was the guy back in '85 who "left" Van Halen becasue he thought he was the be all, end all of the band. Well guess what DLR was F**king wrong, dead wrong!!! At this point in their carreers neither Ed, Al or Mike need to do this for the money.
Would I like to see DLR back? Sure I would but, I have and always will support "the foundation" of this band, because they are the backbone, they are responsible for the music.
Once again I must say that to all of the "Dave or the Grave" jerk-offs on this site:
Hey Dave, "It's Van Halen or you are failin'"
And since I'm blowing off steam at FORD and of his DLR ass-kissers. Let me say this to you FORD.
I notice that you are from the pacific northwest, so was Nirvana and all of those grunge band losers. If Kurt Cobain were alive today absolutely nobody would be talking about him. The only reason people talk about him like he was some kind of god is because he's dead!!!! Think I'm wrong??? Does anybody talks about Pearl Jam or any of those no talent hacks anymore?? the answewr is NO!!!!!

I, for one, dont think a 4th singer is a good option for the band known as Van Halen.
If they (Ed, Alex, & Mike that is) decide to opt for a 4th lead singer, please dont call yourselves Van Halen.

Niether does Dave so what's your point?

That sounds soooo stupid. At least Dave or the Grave is catchy.

Dude... take a chill pill. FORD didn't do anything to deserve this rant.
