Ten13/Van-Halen Similarities

Has anyone else noticed how much Ten13 sounds like Van Halen? That's not to say that it's as good as a VH production or that it's necessarily in the same vein as the work that Sam did with the band but I noticed a lot of things through the course of that cd that remind me of VH. For instance, the backing vocals seem to take on that VH flare. Every now and again (I notice it particularly on Tropic of Capricorn and Serious JuJu) those vocals are coupled with a guitar sound that's remarkably similar to Ed. I don't know if that's Victor or if that's Sam's input but it's noticable to me. I heard someone here note the similarities between Tropic of Capricorn and Take Me Back (Deja Vu) already but this cd almost seems like it could have followed Balance. What do you guys think?

Ummm i don´t find any similar part between Ten 13 and VH...even in the musical sound...but you know Sammy...when i list Serious Ju ju i can imagine how such ´ll be if ...you know Sammy and Van Halen...

Anyway Ten 13 is my 2000 year favorite album

I definitely could see Van Halen playing songs like Shaka Doobie, Let Sally Drive, 3 In The Middle, and Serious Juju.

Crossing Over, I agree that Ten 13 was the best album of 2000.

Personally, after spending 11 years with a band and forging both of your sounds together, it should be expected to hear bits and pieces of similarities between the two over time.

Now, as far as Ten13 goes, the only song that really sounds in vein with VH is Tropic of Capricorn, which though it does NOT sound like Take Me Back, it has the same kind of VH "feel" to it.

I'll also agree that the backing vocals do lend themselves to that interpretation (which is better than the usual "crap" version the Wabos did before Hey, band improvement, way to go guys!).

However, as a whole, Ten13 is more Sammy than VH.

I heard an interview w\the DJ in my area (KEGL 97-Dallas\FT Worth). He talked about "In the Middle" reminding him of "Right Now". Sammy said the keyboard guy (name I don't know)came up with the tune, much like Ed w\Right Now. He went on to say after the break-up, he didn't want to write anything close to VH sound. But he's now come to terms with "his" style of vocal music. He now says Ten13 is much on line with VH, & In the Middle is very close to the VH sound?

Actually, it's the song "The Message" that sounds like "Right Now". The keyboard player's name is Jesse Harms.

"In the Middle" sounds like Zakk Wylde on guitar. Check it out.

Hey did anyone notice around the end of Serious Ju Ju there is someone singing that sounds a lot like Mike Anthony?

It doesn't sound like Mona to me.

Yeah they are similar......
Both are on CD....
Both are near the ass end of the aisles in the Music stores....
Oh yeah
Both have or had Sammy singing.
